Not sure where to put this but I had this idea of opening a thread to help each other if someone is in need of suitable work - especially part-time or remote. I can't find anything to that effect.

I know that people here are coming from all over the world but especially for that reason and because the internet makes it possible to work from everywhere I thought it would be great to have a space where we can share jobs we know about, ideas for working remotely or even people who would be happy to skillshare or can provide help gaining skills for remote work.

For example many in the Chinese field teach English online and every now and then I hear of online schools who are looking for new teachers. This usually only requires a TEFL certificate.

Some people might have learned how to develop websites, why not share some ideas on how to acquire this skill or even offer assistance? (I realize you can't learn this over night). Or do you have any other, maybe even quirky ideas on how to work online? (Writing, marketing etc). To be clear, the intention is for jobs that can sustain a person - not things like filling in online surveys.

Feel free also to share ideas on how you started your own local business, like window cleaning or other services.

Recently I found out about a new website run by brothers who run a job board - Jobs are usually offered by brothers directly (also some local work) with some third-party exceptions. It looks like it's only just started but I thought someone might find it useful: https://needgr8r.org

You need to register and wait for approval though. You can also post any jobs you are offering (local or remote)

I hope this is somewhat useful especially because many are looking for work here and maybe it will help someone.

Usually in my country, need greater work online like English teaching. Some company need TEFL cert but some don't.

In my country, digital marketing or graphic design is a good pay for bros and good for sisters as well.

If you know  another language here like mandarin and japanese, that gives u a work at home job and a good pay.

Im trying to learn digital marketing..

SEO  or seach engine specialist is a good pay too.

I've been in part time work at home job for 6 years and it supported my pioneering. However, I lost the good pay job because our internet and electricity here are not stable..

Anyone who wants to teach English remotely. You can find some online schools here. https://www.eslemployment.com/

Hey Luise

No they have nothing to do with jwtalk. They have an "About" page which provides a lot of info. It also says:

Needgr8r is a website where jobs are posted by brothers and sisters offering remote work to need greaters around the world. There is also a resource center called NeedsList which has oppotunities and posts that help need greaters in pratical ways.

Needgr8r is only for brothers and sisters in good standing. All posts and job offers are moderated before going public. Needgr8r is completely non-profit and there are no fees charged to anyone using the site and no one involved in needgr8r.org benefits financially or otherwise. While this project is only for brothers and sisters it is not organized by the Branch.

Translation work is also good, I've been doing this for almost a decade now. It has its up and down, like any remote /independent job. But now it allows me to have enough to live, take care of my family and be a regular pioneer.

Yes digital marketing is a boost to your online career. I do have a certificate with google on digital skills. Fiverr is also a good platform to work as a freelancer anywhere in the world, and it gets better with upworks which works only for US citizens.

What exactly is involved in digital marketing? I am curious - is it SEO? I thought Google made it much harder now for SEO specialists since you can just pay Google to appear on top of the search results?

I would be interested in learning about website development - specifically Java Script front-end development. But I am a verbal learner and find it very hard to find someone to teach me. And many technically skilled people are pretty bad at teaching..lol..

If anyone has an idea, let me know.

I found that translation work doesn't pay very well for my language skills. It's better if you live in a developing country. What languages do you translate and how do you find your jobs?

English to French and Japanese to french, there are websites that help to find work : translatorcafe or proz for example. That's where I started, now I'm working for several companies.

Pay for translation work greatly depends on skill level. If you are a really good translator here in Central Asia, you can make up to 2000 dollars a month. If you are a good interpreter, you can make up to 350 dollars a day. I believe that pay should be higher in Western countries for this kind of work.

I am speaking from experience, as I have also worked as an English-Russian/Russian-English translator/interpreter for many years.

SEO is search engine optimization. When u search for something on the web, it generally displays two search results- Organic and paid results. Paid results appear on the top of the page, while organic result appear later. Another name for organic result is SEO, while paid result is SEM( search engine marketing)

It all boils down to relevance, and engagement. If your content has any of these, you would appear on the front page of organic results. And

you could also bid to be at the front and top page of general web results(SEM or paid ads). Either way, your content needs to be fine-tuned to web searches.

The best place to learn this is coursera, but you'll need to pay for this. But you can also learn this free on platforms like openclassrooms, udemy and udacity.

Would you like a link?

Yes, but it takes time and focus to be a good SEO specialist. You can start with the fundamental of digital skills that gives you a general idea of the digital world. This includes email marketing, SEO, content writing, research writing, display advertising etc. You could then go for the one of your choice, and it also pays to be a research, content, and article writer. The range is limitless, as that's what digital skills does.

The best place to learn is Google, as it offers you an advantage in your country and the good thing is that you are not paying for it. Then you could further your knowledge in the SEO field by registering on coursera. This should normally take 6-9 months if you intend on getting the best.

There are some free courses on:

Khan Academy (Computer Courses)

CodeAcademy is also another which offers some but most are paid courses.

Javascript (JS) is a great first language to get into, once you know this one, you can pretty much pick up most other languages out there. Also, JS allows you to code for front-end , back-end , mobile and IoT devices.

As you stated you are a verbal learner, then YouTube would probably be best but as you mentioned, being tech savvy person does not mean you are a good teacher. I would say you are going to have to do a lot of reading and testing and trial and error on your own, even if you get a great personal tutor to teach you, things get outdated quick in the dev world and some frameworks/libraries which you will be using will be no longer used. So, you are going to have to learn, learn learn and test test test. Again, if you know "Vanilla JS" which is Javascript without any framework/library, things become a lot easier to pick up when you test try different frameworks (AngularJS, Vue.js, etc)

Finding work...

Currently, I work 2 days out of the week and I am full time pioneering, I can tell you that most of my work comes from referrals and Jehovah lining things around :) , I also occasionally use WeWorkRemotely, StackOverFlow, CraigsList. A lot of leads and people who send referrals have come from those sites after establishing good secular work relationships.

WeWorkRemotely also has other jobs not related to programming and its all 100% remote. I have found I cannot take most of the jobs because they require full-time commitment (traps!) and that conflicts with my pioneering.

I hope you do find something that works with your goals 👍

To my surprise, my son said to me the other day that he wants to learn German. He says that he likes it. :)

Now going back on topic, someone has mentioned marketing. I have personally considered it myself before, and I believe if you have good writing skills, prefer creative work and interacting with people, it is a good route that can potentially pay well.

Here are some certificate courses all the way to the level that is equivalent to a master's degree: https://www.cim.co.uk/qualifications/

The Chartered Institute of Marketing is one of the most important marketing bodies in the world and its certificates are recognised and respected everywhere.

More and more brothers choose home schooling for their children. I cannot see any platform for them, eg. language courses, etc. I would explore that avenue.

I often hear about italki.com where you can choose a language tutor or partner to learn and practise a language. I have not used it myself, but that is what many people recommend for language learning. They say that sometimes you can make a barter deal like you teach them your language in exchange for help with their language.

For those who are interested in programming, but have no idea where to start, I would recommend using scratch.mit.edu which is designed by the MIT university to introduce children to programming without using actual code. The scratch language lets you use drag-and-drop blocks to build a program. After scratch you will have a good grounding in programming concepts and be able to transition more easily to Python and/or JavaScript, which are one of the easiest real-world well-paid languages for beginners today.

Both Python and JavaScript are general scripting languages that are used for many things ranging from web programming, artificial intelligence, data science to drone programming and many others. These days, most universities around the world use these two languages to teach programming to 1st and 2nd year computer science students. The good thing about them is not only that you can learn them relatively easily, but also that there are many online jobs for them that actually pay well.

My son and I have used scratch and Python to learn programming since he was 4. It is fun and a challenge at the same time. By the way, my boy has learnt to make small programmes and games. He can now even programme robots. :)

Here are some good free books on programming for beginners:
