I think this can lead to more crime and violence somehow.  Any thoughts?

I think it's not going to take much anywhere in the world even where we don't have food stamps for violence to erupt ... so yes I can see violence from this, but not just this issue.

Poverty though is one international issue the evokes emotional responses ... and this is what appeals to me about the New System - is everyone will have the same chance to have something nice, enough food and no violence. This system is so broken isn't it?

Yes, I see your point Mandi, but most are people who are not trusting in Jehovah as we are. Have the USA seen poor people struggling like never before since world war?

Do you think it can get any worse it already is? Yes, I think so. Just add hanger to the already broken system and bomb. Some will die, some will steal or even kill from being hungry with anger which equals hanger.  Just my humble thought.

I can't wait for a time wherein men and women will have equal opportunities because some women are forced to enter marriage because they need security.. Or is this how women are made?

A lot of people depend heavily on food stamps, especially the minority poor folks. It could turn ugly, cause more misery for families trying to feed their children. This will just encourage more looting (during an emergency situation) and stealing (Shoplifting).

Has anyone that has posted so far even read what the cuts involve? No families, but single men 19 through 49 that do not seek work. Even meager part time work keeps them on the list.

Or maybe  have read the whole thng wrong, if so enlighten me.

I read an article back in september that stated that it could affect children as well, unless this has changed now. Just because it states it wont hit children in an article doesn’t mean its true. I would imagine a rule this big will affect children in some way. Don’t believe everything you read.

https://www.pbs.org/newshour/health/heres-who-could-lose-food-stamps-under-trumps-proposed-changes

“The data suggests this policy would hit vulnerable populations like children and the elderly, Lauffer said. Also, nearly 194,000 households that face losing SNAP benefits are home to at least one person living with a disability, and almost 790,000 households receiving those benefits are in poverty.”

As many as 500,000 children also could lose eligibility for free school lunch program, Waxman cautioned. That’s because states that automatically enrolled people to receive SNAP benefits, also enrolled children in the household to receive free school lunches.”

Once you, if you are able to find work for 20 + hrs a week will not feed most. Plus once you start working they will cut them so low you might be able to buy milk and water for two weeks.  Yes Bro. and who liked his comment, I  read the cuts involved.

https://www.usatoday.com/story/news/nation/2019/12/04/food-stamps-trump-administration-tightens-snap-work-requirements/2608297001/

"Under long-standing rules, adults ages 18 to 49 who are "work eligible" and have no dependents can receive only three months of SNAP benefits during a three-year period if they do not meet the 20-hour-a-week work requirement."

Not all but most who are honest with hard to get hours of work say like at McDonald's or other fast food restaurants can't get the work hrs required to even qualify for what little allotments they can get from the government. Which will force them to seek other means to maybe eat once or twice a day.

Container gardening might work. 5 gallon pails work great

That's a great idea Sis.

Where I live, they don't allow it on our balconies. Jehovah will definitely provide. Je•ho'vah-Ji'reh Gen. 22: 14

Plus, most need to eat today... not the many months it takes for food to grow (if it grows- I can't keep any plant alive  😔)

Jehovah Jireh, indeed.

Getting a viable job is not as easy as it looks, either. I've been out of work quite a lot in recent years and it's scary difficult.  Where I live, even unattractive apartments in bad neighborhoods are over $1,000/ month...

When I was at my most broke with only $350/ week in unemployment money, I looked into food stamps.  I qualified for about $16/month- hardly worth the paperwork.  Desperate times out here 😰

In Canada we don’t have food stamps, but the government has a program called welfare assistance (or just welfare as everyone calls it) to which the government will give you money to support yourself including paying your rent and food for the month, to be on welfare though is pretty strict and as seen as last resort to do. As long the guidelines are met you can receive this assistance.

I don't know about America, but here some people do have a job, minimum wage, and can't afford to put decent food on the table, plus pay rent etc. I understand that in the States, 1 in 8 people don't know where their next meal is coming from, according to statistics I heard recently. I believe food stamps were originally brought in because children were actually dying of starvation. In the richest country in the world! Especially in the southern States. And this in the 1960's, not the "dark ages". We live in an awful world.

Yes, one can definitely find a job.

I'm speaking of people who really are struggling with health problems that the government doesn't qualify them as unable to work, or work long enough to gain access to enough money to meeting their needs.

Not those who are able.

Cleaning, Restaurants, cashiering,  etc.  Will not having  a degree or  something to that fact get you to where you could survive without the assistance of enough food stamps.

But!!

See below these answers.
