Gas pump price fluctuations

Recommended Posts

Before I throw these receipts away, I wanted to share this with the world.

The left receipt was at an admittedly generally slightly more expensive fuel station slightly further in the rich region, at about 8 am in the morning.

The right receipt was about 3 hours later.

These types of fluctuations are not at all uncommon where I live.

Not too long ago, I drove into a gas station observing the price (I always do) and then when I went to pick up the filler nozzle the price had gone up 10 cents per liter (that's about $0.50 per gallon). I immediately went in to complain to the gas station clerk because I came in to fill up due to their advertising billboard. He gave me the previous price.. but still, how extreme can you get?

Do you have fluctuations like this in the USA? Where the price fluctuates between 10-20% at a single gas station within hours?

There are supposed to be laws in place to prevent "price gouging" ... but, more often than not, they are not enforced.

Not only do we, at times, have a 20 cent per gallon price change within a couple hours ... the prices never seem to go down as fast as they go up.

Also, during a "disaster" they are not supposed to "gouge" by raising prices. During some of the recent hurricanes, when the prices went up as people started to evacuate, people did report many of those stations to the State. They had a report on the news about them numerous calls about the "gouging" and they reported that, as far as the State is concerned, a price increase of 50 cents per gallon is NOT gouging

If the people buying the gas did not think a 50 cent per gallon increase was gouging, they would not have called the State - would they    :nope:

That's this System ...

Okay thanks. So would 50 cents a gallon be considered an extreme fluctuation?

Because in the example above, the difference is roughly $0.90 per gallon within three hours. They adjust their prices depending on the time of day or the day of the week (more people fill up on the way to or back from work) or before public holidays. Sometimes, the prices drop remarkably during the last hour of service between 2200 and 2300 or whenever they close.

Yes, 50 cents per gallon increase within three hours would be a rather steep increase - especially during a disaster or just before a holiday or a commonly heavy travel time.

I guess they can do it here because of the German mentality. They never really get upset about anything.

Lenin is supposed to have said there will never be a revolution in Germany, if they wanted to carry out a strike at a train station, they would buy a ticket first.

They are talking about an extra 50% tax on petrol (that would mean up to 10 USD per gallon) to combat climate change, and 50% of people are super happy about it because they like the idea of Germany being a "role-model". Sometimes, I can't believe how in love they are with themselves..

Only petrol? Not diesel? Germany is biggest diesel nation, but their biggest car company cheated world on diesel emissions scandal. 10 years before i usually used german tools in my work, but their quality dropped dramatically.. i will never buy another germany made tool. Prefere Japanese now. Their mentality is even superior than german.

Made in Germany no longer stands for quality. It's true. And they know it. Beyond that, a lot of German products are either not made in Germany at all or the components are imported from China.

Everybody wants to make that sweet moolah, after all.

Maybe they get upset about the speed limit at the highway 😁. Within a several months we're only allowed to drive a maximum of 100 km /h. in Holland. At your side of the border they would laugh about it.

Overhere we have a lot of price fluctuations for petrol as well. Fortenately we have a lot of petrolstations doing there utmost best to get more customers. They have something like 'amazing Monday' at station A, so at Mondays you get it cheaper overthere. 'Whatever Wednesday' at Station B and so on. You just have to remember where to go to....
