Bigamy laws never did make much sense to me.  It's perfectly legal for anyone to have as many sexual partners as they want at the same time.  The only difference is that bigamy implies some sort of legal or religious ceremony associated with that sexual immorality.

Phillipians 4:8 Finally, brothers, whatever things are true, whatever things are of serious concern, whatever things are righteous, whatever things are chaste, whatever things are lovable, whatever things are well-spoken-of, whatever things are virtuous, and whatever things are praiseworthy, continue considering these things.

Doesn't that legal ceremony also entitle the extra spouse some legal rights and benefits?  I can understand the government being reluctant about dealing with the legal issues and benefits of multiple spouses.

Since it's never been legal until now, then thet was never a legal ceremony :shrugs:

It seems the problems stemming from bigamy - the abuse, neglect, and slave like conditions - are the result of further mistaken conduct and attitudes.

Just bizarre.
