"Among the thousands of patent applications filed by Airbus, there are occasionally some that stand out. The ‘flying donut’ is one such design. This flying wing-shaped aircraft would feature a spheroid passenger cabin, with a void in the middle for boarding and disembarkation... "

What on Earth is the ‘flying donut’?

People tend not to really want to travel backwards...

I'm not sure the bigger problem would be the direction you're travelling in, so much as, when the plane ascends, or descends, the center of gravity might be felt pulling you down from the front of you or even at an angle, rather than from the back--while ascending-- on a typical plane. That must be rather disorienting feeling.

Perhaps, but the direction of travel is important. When ideas for self driving cars were presented mid 1900s, some designers felt you could design a seating area where travellers could sit and have a chat face to face. Even though self driving cars are coming, we will not be sitting face to face. Such ideas have been scrapped.

Back to the drawing board? Flying saucers was being built over 70 years ago. Military only knows it is still being used.

Our buses here have seats that face backwards, and I've seen plenty people use them. Though a lot of people just put their feet up on them (which isn't very respectful as you get mud on all sorts on them, and others have to sit on it).

Yes, we have such buses here as well, but if given a choice, most people would not travel backwards. It is not the seat of choice for most people, I believe.

Yeah, everytime I was on those seats I'd sit sideways or look behind me, ha.
