AN OLD YARN OF A LETTER

In 2015, a French woman in her 80s received a letter intended for her great grandfather. Sentence of death is what some who are part of our congregation have received since the State Prison is part of our territory, which includes death row.

Row in a store is the place to be to start casual conversations. Few people leave it before checking out, they are stuck. So we have pleeeeeenty of time to talk about the Kingdom😊

Just for clarification:

 

Our congregation includes 3 prisons. We have had a "prison ministry" for a long, long time. Not only do we preach in the prison, but we also hold regular meetings there each week with a Public Talk and a Watchtower Meeting. That is one of the reasons that, when the Branch launched the pilot program for the "Prison Ministry", Florida was one of the first states chosen for this pilot program. In fact, one of the elders in our congregation was appointed to head up the Florida program.

 

One of the prisons in our territory is the Florida State Prison, the home of death row. Some of these death row inmates have accepted the Truth and are now our brothers.

 

Those brothers are considered as part of our congregation. Since they are on death row, they are not permitted to attend the meetings held in the prison. However, they do participate in a very unique way. They have student assignments in the School and prepare those talks in written form. They also prepare answers to the WT and Bible Study. They mail these talks and answers to our congregation where several of the brothers take turns in reading their answers during our WT and Bible Study. Likewise, various brothers will be assigned to give the student talk using the written manuscript the prison brother mails in.

 

These brothers know that they committed a grievous crime and have accepted that they will not get out of prison in this system. That does not stop them from preaching to their fellow inmates on death row. It gives them a special territory the rest of us do not have access to.

 

We are happy that some of those on death row have accepted the Truth and consider it a privilege to read their comments and handle their student talks.
