This is interesting. I'm sure the King of the South is concerned about the King of the North having it's own space station.

History repeats:

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mir

Mir (Russian: Мир, IPA: [ˈmʲir]; lit.'peace' or 'world') was a space station that operated in low Earth orbit from 1986 to 2001, operated by the Soviet Union and later by Russia. Mir was the first modular space station and was assembled in orbit from 1986 to 1996. It had a greater mass than any previous spacecraft. At the time it was the largest artificial satellite in orbit, succeeded by the International Space Station (ISS) after Mir's orbit decayed. The station served as a microgravity research laboratory in which crews conducted experiments in biology, human biology, physics, astronomy, meteorology, and spacecraft systems with a goal of developing technologies required for permanent occupation of space.

From the article:

He said Russia's Energia space corporation was aiming to have the module "ready for launch" in 2025 and released a video of Energia staff at work.

Heh, we see how good a job they did with their Buran space shuttle.

Russia's space agency said Tuesday it hoped to launch its own orbital station in 2025 as Moscow considers withdrawing from the International Space Station programme to go it alone.

The key word is hope.

Back then they hoped to build new communists society till 1980. Still waitng. 😃

...absolute rubbish...

I find the Russian space program history both inspiring and disheartening.

Read a short story where Mir was turned into low-income housing.

A second space station could have some positive benefits.  Still, I'm looking forward to the day when space stations look like this:  https://newatlas.com/1970s-space-station-concepts/44595/

Couldn’t download the second one. I like your thinking. I think we are babes as to the future possibilities. Man thinks they are so smart. Little do they know.

I want to age without sharp corners, and have an obedient heart!

That reminds me very much of the Citadel space station in the Mass Effect sci-fi franchise. I wonder if it was directly inspired...

A torus space station. Is a very old concept. An O'Neal cylinder is another. Similar principle in that rotational spin will create artificial gravity to push inhabitants against the inner wall of the torus or cylinder.

It looks like a small piece of Larry Niven's "Ringworld" to me.

Yes, similar to that too. Other sci-fi franchises of today have been directly inspired from Ringworld, such as "Halo".
