I found myself looking for the lights from different cities.

When it came to showing lights around Australia, there were lighted up areas of the country where there isn't a city (let alone a township) for thousands of kilometers. However, what was recorded was that of fires in the desert or very sparsed out land.

Br. Sebastian, are you referring to the JW Broadcast background from the early days?  When we first started the objects on the screen moved left and new countries appeared on the right.  In just a few months it was changed to the opposite.  You can replay some of the 2014 broadcasts and then look ahead a few months in 2015 and see the difference.

My theory is that when they first made the background, they simply played the video exactly how the satellite recorded it, i.e. scrolling to the left or moving right-to-left. The earth spins left-to-right from the reference point of the sun, but most satellites move in the same direction as the earth's rotation (as this requires less energy to achieve) and some move even faster than the earth's spin.

So if you were on the international space station, for example, the earth would appear to rotate right-to-left (i.e. in the 'wrong' direction). They just had to reverse the video to make it seem right, for the solar-centric audience. ☀️🛰️🌍

...or maybe this?

Just stop it.Romans 12:2

I do not know the reason.  I did not write to then to point out the rotation from human stand point and they never shared the reason for the reversal.

So any of the reasons you stated could quite possibly be the reason.  Thank you.
