Initialism

Recommended Posts

I suppose it really became popular with texting.  Initialism is the use of the first letter of each word strung together.  The following are the ones I have needed to Google because I couldn't crack the code:    :ok:

SMH   -  Shaking My Head

WFH   -  Work From Home

OTT    -  Over The Top

TLDR  -  Too Long Didn't Read

Thank goodness for Google !     Have you been stumped, and had to look one up?

lol

When I first started using emoji's I sometimes signed emails and texts with these letters. One day one of the recipients asked me if I knew what it meant.

I learned it was  'laughing out loud'  and not  'lots of love'..

lol

One small crack doesn't mean you are broken; it means that you were put to the test and didn't fall apart..

My grandma used to send all these texts with LOL at the end and they were often quite inappropriate.  For example, she would send:

"I heard you are sick. Hope you feel better soon. LOL"

I would think, "why is she laughing about someone being sick?"  So I asked her and she explained, "I thought LOL meant 'lots of love'".

LOL
