Can I use Demon to mean a negative feeling as a Christian?

Recommended Posts

Worldly people don't take the issue of demons as seriously as we the JWs do.a lot of the worldlies don't know who demons are and how they come about.some don't even think demons are real beings, hence the casual  and common use of the name.

But I doubt someone with thorough knowledge of the subject of demons will so freely like to mention that name.

Webster's dictionary includes this secondary definition of "demon": "a person, habit, obsession, etc, thought of as evil, cruel, or persistently tormenting"

In literature it's common to refer to someone's demons, meaning some things from their past (feelings of guilt, a former addiction, and so on) which keep tormenting them. This way of speaking is correct English and IMO there's nothing necessarily wrong in it, although it's mostly literary, not something people usually say in daily conversation. I don't remember any instance of our publications using that expression, which is understandable because it might create confusion. Many readers would think they are speaking of evil spirits and would miss the reference to personal obsessions.

JWs usually become very nervous when they hear the word "demons". :)
