Earthquakes In One Place After Another...

Recommended Posts

Yes a mega quake advisory has been issued.

https://www3.nhk.or.jp/nhkworld/en/news/backstories/3509/

“The Japan Meteorological Agency is calling on people in areas of the Nankai Trough quake's expected hypocenter to take disaster prevention measures. It says the possibility of a mega earthquake is higher than usual. It is asking people to take prevention measures in accordance with information provided by the central and local governments.”

If this did happen (and it has a high expectation to happen at any time in the next 30 years), then the “latest estimate says about 230,000 people would be killed and about 2.09 million buildings would be damaged by fire or destroyed”.

200+ earthquakes in SoCal: What's going on?

https://www.usatoday.com/story/news/nation/2024/08/07/california-earthquake-bakersfield-lamont/74699447007/

We had a 5.2 the other day and nothing but aftershocks all over the place since... it was in central California I guess but we felt it in LA. The Grapevine is still getting it too I think.

I hope you brothers and sisters in Japan are ok 💞

It was a small one. They should be ok.

And it wasn't directly related to the (in)famous Nankai Trough, according to the specialists.

Be that's a good training to be careful.

The friends are preparing / checking their emergency procedures.

A good read in the linked article below that was released today regarding the warning of a megaquake under a new rule that was drawn up after the previous megaquake. It doesn't mean there will be one but preparing in case there is one.

But there's no need to panic—there is only a "small probability" that Thursday's magnitude 7.1 earthquake is a foreshock, according to Bradley and Hubbard.

"One of the challenges is that even when the risk of a second earthquake is elevated, it is still always low," they said

Very interesting but question : why aren't they proposing anything to secure the affected areas and prevent thousands of people from being swallowed up. So why this alert?

The advisory is precautionary and was established after the 2011 Tohoku earthquake disaster so protocols were more tightened to prepare the population.

”The Meteorological Agency says the probability of a major earthquake in the Nankai Trough is higher than usual. It issued the special advisory urging caution under what is known as the Nankai Trough Earthquake Extra Information protocol.

Agency officials say the advisory does not mean that a quake will definitely strike within a certain timeframe. But they have asked 707 municipalities in 29 prefectures -- extending from around Tokyo in the east to Okinawa in the south -- to check their disaster preparedness.

The government is advising people to secure furniture, and to check evacuation sites and ways to confirm the safety of their family members.

Households with infants, the elderly and people with disabilities are being advised to consider evacuating voluntarily”

It’s good that “The agency says no irregular changes have so far been observed in the crustal strain.”

Thats a good question, I know in the 2011 earthquake when the earthquake happened, a P wave was detected 1 minute before the earthquake happened and Japan was able to send a 15-20 second advance notice of an incoming earthquake which they say saved lives, so i’m assuming this is similar situation they are communicating of a possible incoming megaquake based on criterias they know and ensuring they prepare their citizens as much as possible, even if a megaquake doesnt happen.

4.6 magnitude in Greater LA Area . . .a bit more serious than the 100's of quakes in the last few weeks nearby. Didn't feel it here.

Everyone along the freeway I live against didn’t feel it. Everything that lives near the 134/210. Felt it and said it was pretty bad. From Glendale to Glendora!

7.2-magnitude earthquake strikes off Russian coast - tsunami warning issued

https://news.sky.com/story/7-2-magnitude-earthquake-strikes-off-russian-coast-tsunami-warning-issued-13197584

7.2 is huge. My '94 Northridge experience was a 6.7. I remember it very very clearly. Thankfully this was in the ocean I guess but the Tsunami warning doesn't sound to great.

A volcano has erupted in Russia's Far East after a magnitude-7.0 earthquake struck early on Sunday, local time.

Plumes of of ash erupted 5 kilometres into the sky over the far eastern Kamchatka Peninsula and briefly triggered a "code red" warning for aircraft.

What's next?

The Institute of Volcanology said a potential second quake could come "within 24 hours" with a magnitude approaching 9.0.

A bit of news regarding nuclear power plants near earthquake prone areas:

”The small mining town of Denman, in the NSW Hunter Valley, was identified as the epicentre of a 4.8 magnitude earthquake felt across a large part of the state on Friday.

The town is about 40 kilometres by road from the Liddell Power Station, a spot nominated by the federal Coalition as a site for a future nuclear power plant.

If things weren't so busy in federal politics, or if people — including the Coalition — were actually talking about the Coalition's nuclear power policy, the earthquake and any safety questions it might raise about nuclear power might have registered more in the news.”

This article was about some political issue with the way both side of parliament are bullying each other - hence not handling the real issues of governing. Like, do you really intend to build a future nuclear power plant in an earthquake prone area? Because a 4.8 mag earthquake is not exactly little.

I’ve noticed an uptick in earthquakes in Australia that, though not newsworthy by world standards, is still fulfilling prophecy Luke 21:11. In Western Australia, there has been a swarm of earthquakes in the wheatbelt a few hundred kms south east of Perth. Interesting times….

Thanks for mentioning this Lucy. I have noticed this too. Definitely interesting.

This is also a very strange winter we're having with some unusual weather patterns.

Watching and waiting! 👀👀

Don't give up .. it's just around the corner.

Don't worry, my wife informs me that we had another similiar earthquake this afternoon at 16:31 in basically the same location. She had felt it, as she inside whereas I was outside mowing the lawn. I only just in an half ago ago from mowing, yes it was 22:00 (10pm) when I finished.

Actually there is history of earthquakes in that area for some years ago, usually about the M4.0 range too.
