An elder in my congregation asked me if it would be okay if he and the CO stopped by next Friday for a visit.

Is there anything that I should do beforehand to prepare for his visit?

Should I have refreshments?      If so, what kind?

Wow, that will be great, Lori!..Hope you draw comfort and strength from their visit. I think simple is the way to go, maybe cups of coffee and some cookies will be perfect. Let us know how it goes.

Or tea, or juice, or hot chocolate...

My first year in Whiteville when the CO came to the congregation, I was sick.  There was a substitute CO because the regular CO was working on disaster relief.  I was sick and my wife had put a mattress on the floor in the living room.  I was lying on the mattress in my Pajamas when an elder and the substitute CO knocked on the door.  My wife and I talked to them at the door but didn't invite them in because, with the mattress on the floor, there was nowhere to sit.

In 2023, I fell and injured my knee 2 weeks before the Pioneer Service School.  I contacted the new CO whom I had never met and told him my situation.  He said there would be 2 weeks of Pioneer Service School for 2 groups of pioneers.  He suggested I could attend the second week if that helped.  (That would mean that the demonstrations my wife and I had been given would have to be done by someone else.)  The doctor had told me that I had to keep my weight off the knee to allow it to heal, which made attending Pioneer Service School impossible.  My wife and I had been a Pioneering since December of 2021 and this was the first Pioneer School we were eligible to attend.  The CO said that I would be eligible to attend in 2024 since my knee problems prevented me from attending in 2023.

Of course, when the CO visited our congregation a couple of weeks later. he and the COBE and a couple of other brothers stopped by. This time they asked if it would be OK to visit.  Of course, it was!!

You think hot cocoa would be okay?

I was thinking maybe cheesecake?  IDK.     But I guess cookies would be good too?

They are there to visit you and any hospitality that you show them is a gift. Focus on the visit, be like Mary, not Martha.

How to Prepare For the C.O.’s visit to your home

  • Dust off the Bible and Study Books: Make sure your Bible and study books are prominently displayed and free of dust. It’s always good to look prepared for deep discussions!

  • Hide the TV Remote: Tuck away that TV remote and maybe turn off the TV entirely. In fact, put it in the bedroom and lock the door.      A stack of Watchtower magazines on the coffee table would be a nice touch!

  • Swap Out Questionable Reading Material: Replace any novels or magazines that might not be congregation-approved with some literature from the Kingdom Hall.

  • Adjust Music Playlist: Switch your music to Kingdom songs or instrumental tracks to avoid any awkward moments with unexpected lyrics.

  • Tidy Up the Home: A clean and organized home reflects well on your character, so perhaps do a quick tidy-up.

  • Display Modest Attire: Ensure any visible clothing reflects the modesty encouraged in congregation meetings.

  • Minimize Tech Gadgets: Conceal any gaming consoles or devices that might suggest you spend a lot of time on entertainment.

  • Put Away “Worldly” Decorations: Store any decor that might be considered too flashy or worldly in a drawer for the time being.

  • Review Conversation Topics: Brush up on recent Watchtower articles or Bible study topics to steer the conversation smoothly.

  • Prepare Refreshments: Having some tea, coffee, or light snacks ready can be a nice touch and shows hospitality.

We wish you the best :lol1::lol2:

Lori, he is joking.

Don't stress yourself by feeling obligated to do those things.

The brothers are your friends. Have a glass of water available for them if they ask for it and enjoy their visit.

Cheesecake and hot cocoa is fine. If no cheese cake, cookies too. But since cookies are usually the default, cheesecake would be ingenious. We understand that you just want to be a generous hostess. May Jehovah bless your efforts in this generous endeavor as you benefit from the spiritual gifts awaiting you!

This is fun. Make sure you don't reek of alcohol before the CO and company arrive at your door step. It is not good to be inebriated when talking to honored quests. 😂

Daydream -

Scientists have discovered that daydreaming is an important tool for creativity. It causes a rush of activity in a circuit, which connects different parts of the brain and allows the mind to make new associations.

This is kinda true.  My 20 year old daughter lives with me and plays questionable video games on our PS4.   She's not a JW.   LOL!  I was actually thinking about putting her games away and then I thought...  "Nah.  If he asks,  I'll tell him the truth "   LOL !

LOL.    I was thinking about cutting up some apples.  But IDK.   Maybe just water is fine?   Lol   Or water and cookies?   LOL!    I'm so indecisive.

In all seriousness though...  Should I be wearing meeting clothes or will pants and a shirt be okay? I haven't had a visit with CO since before I was baptized and that was in 1993.

They don’t expect you to dress up for a visit at home. Just don’t want to be sloppy or immodest of course as I’m sure you already know.

If it were me Id just have what I might have for any friends coming over for a visit. Coffee, tea, soda, water etc,.... snack. Just few popular options but nothing crazy.

If he doesn’t like it or can’t eat it....it will be another snack for you.
