"They imprison less, but more severely."

Repressions against Jehovah's Witnesses: 2024 Overview

Courts continue to send Jehovah’s Witnesses to prison, and the sentence of three of them has set a new record for severity. There have been cases of violence and torture, the proportion of the elderly among the “prisoners of conscience” has increased, there are people with severe disabilities, one of whom died shortly after the verdict; the trend of prosecuting entire families continues.

  • bvr changed the title to Jehovah's Witnesses Under the Yoke of Repression | 2024 Overview

They don't have a "court of justice" over there... but perhaps a "court of injustice!" All the cases against these brothers and sisters are likely already decided before anyone sets foot inside the court room.

The Russian authorities must be frustrated with what's happening. They figured that if they put a few Witnesses in prison, we would weaken and give up. They really don't know us, do they? Now, with all the brothers and sisters convicted, they still haven't achieved their goal, and so they resort to "violence and torture." When will it all end?

On June 11, 2025, a 74-year-old woman named Lyudmila Zinina was sentenced in Russia—not for any crime, but for reading the Bible with friends. She has serious health problems, including diabetes, heart disease, osteoporosis, and even cancer, yet she was still dragged through court and needed help just to get there. Her daughter Irina is also being prosecuted, all because of their faith. Lyudmila spent her life caring for others as a nurse, but now she’s being mistreated by the very system she once supported. She’s the first of fifteen local Witnesses in Vyselki to be sentenced, and it’s heartbreaking to see how far this injustice has gone.

I posted the below article hot off the press from: new-logo.pngThe Russian Orthodox Church — Department for External Church Relations

in a different thread Peace and Security, Great Tribulation, Armageddon, but perhaps more appropriate to post on this topic—the glaring blinding of the eyes of those who believe in what the Russian Orthodox church stands for as Christians. It is really astounding to read. (Luke 8:17)

"Delegation of the Moscow Patriarchate participates in the work of the [World Council of Churches] Central Committee in South Africa."

Vladimir Fomin, a 45‑year‑old Jehovah’s Witness with a group II disability, was sentenced on June 23, 2025, by the Cherkessk City Court in Karachay‑Cherkessia to 4 years and 6 months in a penal colony for “extremism” after discussing the Bible with a local resident, following 15 months in pretrial detention  . He became disabled after being attacked on religious grounds at age 20, and his health deteriorated further during incarceration due to chronic illnesses and lack of medication  . The case was based on conversations recorded secretly under FSB instruction in the home of another local believer previously given probation  . Fomin personally protested that believing in Jehovah is lawful, but authorities labeled his religious affiliation as extremist  . In recent years, 13 Jehovah’s Witnesses in this small republic have faced criminal prosecution for their faith, with similar harsh penalties imposed  .

Interesting read from The Center for Studies on New Religions (CESNUR) — [Note: the acronym is according it's name in Italian: Centro Studi Sulle Nuove Religioni] It's not new, it was published in 2020. But for anyone who wants to do a deep dive into the topic, it's great for getting a richer context on how they got to the point of being KotN.

Microsoft Word - tjoc_4_6_2_soryte.docx  Title of the paper is: Opposition to Jehovah’s Witnesses in Russia: The Cultural Roots
