US Gas prices - up or down?

Where's @Tortuga? Maybe Richard can offer insights.

I had to Google it but there hasn't been a new oil refinery built in the US in nearly 50 years. But that doesn't determine the total gasoline production. Refineries can expand their capacity and gasoline production. So if you decide to research it, look for the total gasoline production each year over the last few years.

I'm curious whether there have not been any new refineries built in the US by anyone or just the US.

There may not be any. I'm just curious if there is any spin involved in how these are worded.

I don't have that answer but I know that the number of refineries won't give you an accurate idea of how much gasoline is available in the US if that is what you are looking for.

Did you all catch this: president signed an executive order to the E.P.A. to release E15 Ethanol gas in all the gasoline, reg, mid grade and premium %15 more.  Some gas stations gasoline have been diluted besides Ethanol. Like water in their fuel holding tanks.  But for those with older vehicles engines can't take Ethanol.  Smaller engines are affected too, like lawnmower, sailboats and small fishing boats eith small engines.  In order for the car to run, it must be kept on full.  But it won't feel full cause it cuts your fuel in half.  If you got 35 miles pergallon before after May 1st until the end of this system your mileage will shrink to 20 miles per gallon.  Corn whiskey.  Perhaps you can find Ethanol busters.  A brother told me to look for Lucas Sageway Ethanol stabilizer.  I need to keep a few on hand.  Add it to my vehicle once every couple of weeks.  Don't need my fuel lines and bushings drying up or corroded gas line and gas tank. Water doesn't run in my car's veins!

Please research that when you can. Gas stations generally do everything they can to prevent water in the tanks because it can become very expensive for them.

Of course, this is not a fair comparison since Costco uses gas as a loss leader.

Costco is usually the best value for gasoline in our area. A few gas stations will match the Costco price and sometimes be lower than Costco, but Costco has Top Tier gasoline so I try to get gasoline there as often as I can.

Gasoline in our area is close to $6 a gallon. The Chevrons are over $6 and Costco is around $5.49.

In the UK, diesel is now around £2 a litre.  There are talks of protests.  So what a paid to fill up the tank before, will now only get me 2/3 of a tank.  And since money is tight, I am only using the car for essentials, like getting the meetings.

I am so grateful I work from home. I barely go anywhere- I haven't filled my tank since the beginning of March ☺️

My current job ends June 30. I am praying for another remote role. Driving is barely worth the effort anymore 😔

In March of this yr, I found out thst this chain of gastations diluted their gasoline with Ethanol.  This was befire Trump's ceasefire order.  I dove locally and a few extra miles. When it was time to refill, I counted the gallons into my mileage.  I had put 6 gallons of gas in my tank, calculated it and I only got 23 miles gallon.  I was like what???  So I thought okay maybe my car (i had just put on all new oil change, new hoses, radiator, and a new bearing.  Everything worked well up to that week. 1 drove 140 miles in two weeks. Had 6 gallons went up in "snoke".  This time sane station i got 21 miles gallon.  So I added one of mechanic brother's and he avoided me that some stations are already diluting their has lines like 87, 89 n 91/93 premium.  The Ethanol should only be in pump 88, not 87, 89 or premium.  Same thing eith gas station right across the street.  Do you know how many cars were buying gasoline for Ethanol ZERO!  THE ETHANOL WAS MARKED ON THE SIGN $3.59.  This was low, but I got 87 for $3.65 at another station. Several friends in anotger. Some  congregation heard that some greedy stattions adding Ethanol in all pumps not just 88, this was around the trump sign executive order to add Ethanol to gas pumps.

So with the brothers help, I checked around for a Ethanol stabilizer.  I found one that would help. Lucas safeguard Ethanol fuel stabilizer.  1 bottle (depends where you go) was selling for $8.00, others over $25.00.  Anyway because my car takes 18 gallons, when its half empty, I will add about 3 ounces into my tank.  Since I don't drive long distances this will help my fuel injectors from not clogging and casuing corrosion.  Some gas stations are saying we are not adding a 88 pump. Others stating all pumps will get E15/88, 87, mid grade and premium.  So to protect my old vehicle, its Lucas safeguard Ethanol stabilizer.  3 ounces.  All newer vehicles like 2021 to can use E15, E20 or more.  But not mine, or cars before 2000.  I told some of our older sisters to ask first and do the research before buying something they may not need.  This E15 qill affect hybrids to, unless electric like a leaf or Tesla.
