Changing Devices JW Library question...

Recommended Posts

I have a lot of .jwpub files that I have loaded into my JW Library programs over the years, in addition to the ones that you can download directly from within the app. Changing devices, as I currently understand it, is challenging as I can only see the option of re-downloading every .jwpub file and installing on my new device, if I still have access to them. Is there any way to extract those .jwpub files and send them packaged to a new device? It would be quite helpful but may beyond the capabilities of the program as currently designed. Please and thank you for any assistance

Not sure if this helps ... I have d/l jwpub files directly to my hard drive then opened the file. My device asked me what program/app to open the file with and prompted for "just this time" or "always use this program/app". I picked "always". Once I open that file that way, the JW Library knew where to find it and added it to the publications list. If this works for you, just open each file the way I did.

Let us know if that works

Does your device manufacturer offer any software for transferring data to a new device?

When I switched to a newer Samsung device several years ago, I think the switching software transferred everything for me and I didn't have to reload anything into my JWL app.

The Windows method Carlos pointed out has one caveat in Windows 11.  The \AppData\ file is hidden.  There are a couple of ways to get it out.  One using the 'Run' command and the other using File Explorer and turn on 'Hidden'.  The 'Run' method seems to default to 'AppData\Roaming\' which is incorrect.  Just click on \AppData\ and choose \Local| instead.  Then go down to \packages\Watchtower....
