JW Library tools

Recommended Posts

I wanted to keep a thread where we could post links to tools that we find helpful with JW library.

I know one of those was being able to add files I liked that weren't available through the regular channels. Also being able to merge notes. Som here goes:

1. Merge

2. It seems the files aren't available

I have mixed feelings about someone creating a JWPub file. It seems to open opportunities for misleading information to appear as authorized publications. However, I would love to see the MW, Assembly and Convention transcripts as JWPubs...:D

I understand your feelings, however my web page is open source and you can also your files and it all changes. It really is just a zip masher that just mashes two zip files together really and doesn't overwrite anything. But you can also openly explore with the peak function to see what has been added or subtracted.  Eryks jwl manager runs completely on your computer without any need to access the internet so you may feel more comfortable using that program.

Jwsync.org isn't as polished or powerful (or probably even as easy to use) as jwl manager I just made it so that people could access it from any device on the internet so that they could do it when in a hurry on the way to the hall or other times.

But it is fully available to be reviewed on GitHub. So if you concerned about possibility someone's sneaking information somewhere ( though it only would be able to be a change of a note, no actual data of the JW library could be changed)

Jace, Richard's suspicions are not about specific your tool, but about unofficial jwpub files you can find on the internet. Often you have no idea where they come from, if their content has been tampered with, or what purpose they were made for. It's a wild world out there. :) Your tool is really useful. (tu)

Oh true my bad. Yes that would definitely be a concern. That's a good point.

I am concerned that if someone innocently assumes that every jwpub file comes from the Branch, they may receive a jwpub file with incorrect or even apostate material and think its true.

This is a serious point. Given the issues we already have with deepfake imagery and abuse of AI.  Well intentioned brothers need to be very careful, and see if what they have or what they pass on has the 'ring of truth'. It can be hard, sometimes, to tell the difference between what is true and what is false, given that Satan and his cohorts are expert deceivers -  "And no wonder, for Satan himself keeps disguising himself as an angel of light. It is therefore nothing extraordinary if his ministers also keep disguising themselves as ministers of righteousness. But their end will be according to their works." (2Cor 11: 14,15) We must 'keep on the watch' in every way.

I am not yet wise, but I am on the long road that gets me there - Prov 9:10

The tool being discussed does not combine JWPub files, and it does not alter JWPub files.

Maybe this has drifted into a slightly different concern, but this particular tool is for merging JW Library notes — not publications. Your notes. Your comments for Watchtower lessons, research assignments, personal study, and anything else you have added over time.

The problem is that JW Library normally makes you choose between backups. If you restore one, you overwrite the other, and notes can be lost. This tool lets you bring those notes together — for example, notes you took on your iPad and different notes you took on your computer.

So the point is not to change the publications. It is simply to preserve and merge personal study notes that would otherwise be overwritten.

I think this thread was created to discuss the tools that are available or may become available. That may include tools that create jwpub files. I apologize if I misunderstood the purpose of this topic.
