I guess all I am saying is leave those terms out of it until it is noticeably apparent that those terms are going to be exactly true.

Can you imagine the words the GB or Bible writers would have used?  John writes down the Revelation and adds, "...don't take it too seriously because you have to wait another 2000 years for fulfillment".  He didn't know that and would not have said it unless directed to by holy spirit.

Proverbs 13:12 reminds us..."Expectation (or hope ftn) postponed makes the heart sick"

But Paul expresses the thought of "a little while" to encourage his fellow Christians...in Hebrews 10:36-37..."For you need endurance, so that after you have done the will of God, you may receive the fulfillment of the promise. For yet “a very little while,” and “the one who is coming will arrive and will not delay.”  The footnote adds: "Paul likely refers to these faith-strengthening accounts in order to assure his readers that it would be for a limited time only that they would need to endure trials and persecutions."

The included danger of researching the nearness and being so convinced that you say it (and you are wrong) is easily seen by our mad dash for the 'end' in the 1975 era.

I've talked to Jehovah about how I feel many times but he keeps "upping the ante" on the terms so I figure that I am in the minority in feeling this way and that most others like to hear those terms - it spurs them on to continue forward in their momentum. To each their own!

Don't feel like you are alone in these feelings.  I think that's why people dissect things the GB says. They are hoping to get more insight as to how long this system will go on.  "We all say how much longer Jehovah"? Especially when life gets hard. And it gets harder by the day. I'm not patient and I'm tired. That makes for challenging days at time. But like you and our brothers worldwide, I endure. 💚

I so agree with you. I would say I used to get excited by new terms like soon, imminent, etc, but being around for a while and knowing for myself (not saying for anyone else), I do not get overly excited about verbiage humans use because it used to set me up to feel a little weary. I don't want to feel that way so I refrain from getting overly concerned about the particular language. Words mean different things to different people, but I remember during COVID some people saying we might not get out of it, etc. I don't join in on those conversations as I don't find them helpful to me, but in my mind I was wishing the friends wouldn't voice that so loudly as it can lead to disappointment to some. I do not wish to stumble others but I know how you feel. Sometimes I feel Jehovah is probably tired of me asking him how long can he endure the wickedness, injustice, reproach, etc. I'm like the proverbial kid in the back seat family road trip asking "ARE WE THERE YET???" Yet I remember that he is patient, and then I remember patience isn't my best quality. You can now figure out what my user name means so I can remind myself to work on it.

To help with our perception of such expressions as "soon, impending, around-the-corner, imminent" we should keep in mind that the GB and/or our organization is not the only ones who use such expressions. Here are a few other examples:

  • We see a sign on a piece of land with a sign that says, "Coming Soon..." and names some store or building. Even after they start construction, is sometimes takes several years for them to complete that "soon" construction.
  • Back in 1954 Bell Labs invented the modern silicon panels designed to use solar power. With that invention, we were told that soon solar power would be a reality. Here we are in 2026, and solar power is still a novelty of sorts since it is just starting to be used for large scale power generation.
  • I live in Florida, a place known for oranges. If you start from seeds, it takes around 15 years to get the first fruits and even longer for them to be commercially viable.
  • In 1969 man first landed on the moon. It was said that soon we would have colonies living on the moon. That was 57 years ago, and we are still being told that "soon" there will be colonies on the moon.
  • If you have an allergy, often the impact and effects of that allergy can hit us almost instantly.

When we hear expressions like soon, imminent and on-the-verge we have to remember that words like this have such varied implications that we just have to be patient, so we don't miss that soon event when it does happen.

Let's not fool ourselves. The GB, ever watchful and insightful as they are, have no more insight as to the exact timing of Jehovah's timetable than any other watchful, serious student of the Bible.

Many times in the past they had thought they did, and turned out to be wrong, and disappointed. The simple fact is Matthew 24:36 is as true today as it was when Jesus spoke it.

I don't think that verse loses its force just because we're closer to the end than earlier generations were. If anything, it's a good reminder to stay watchful without getting too attached to a specific timetable. Our confidence should rest in Jehovah's promises being certain, not in our ability to calculate exactly when they'll unfold.

I’m just waiting for the day I can wear a sign that says:

”In just 40 days more, this system will be overthrown”

How did my husband and I get old enough to go to a seminar on maximizing your social security?!? 🤦🏻‍♀️💀

I remember as a young person i used to think oh if the new system comes now, I won’t get to experience or see this or that.
Not anymore!  Im over everything.  I’m kind of ok being that weird person who lives in a van by the river until I get eaten by a bear or as in today’s news thrown by a bison. 🦬

I’m at the minute 2 point….🥴😂

Jer 29:11-“For I well know the thoughts I am thinking toward you, declares Jehovah, thoughts of peace, and not calamity, to give you a future and a hope.”

Psalm 56:3-“When I am afraid, I put my trust in you.”
Romans 8:38-”For I am convinced...”

I try to think ahead, when we will be in Paradise, we will think how "fast" it came.

Now, on this side, it may feel it is late, but when we will be centuries years old, explaining it to the resurrected ones, we will discuss about how quick it came.

No one knows the day or hour but Jehovah and possibly Jesus.  I wasn't implying the Governing Body knew that information.  Please.
