Receive email notifications for new jw.org magazines

This is a small tutorial to get the link to download the latest magazines from jw.org in your email as soon as they are uploaded to the jw.org website or at least before the covers "appear" under the magazines section.

 

1. Open the jw.org link: http://www.jw.org/apps/index.html?selLang=E&option=sFFFHlFPsVlRZNT&txtCMSLang=E

 

2. Choose the language you want

 

3. Choose the magazine you want (Study/Public/Simplified Watchtower or Awake)

 

4. Choose the format you want (AAC, EPUB, MP3 or PDF)

 

5. It will generate a link below. Copy that link

 

6. Open the website http://blogtrottr.com/

 

7. You'll see 3 fields. Paste the link that you copied into the first box that says: "http://"

 

8. Enter your email address on the field "email@example.com" and leave the "Realtime" as it is.

 

9. Click the link bellow that says "Feed Me"

 

10. Check your email inbox and you'll see that you have an email that asks you to click a link to confirm your subscription. Click the link and you're done! Now you'll receive an email as soon as the magazine you've chosen is uploaded.

 

11. Repeat the steps above for each different magazine / file format / language you want.

Since this process checks jw.org often, if enough people used this service, could it cause the download servers to crash? I know, I ask dumb questions.

I imagine that the process checks jw.org once every so often. It is likely done using something called a cron job, which is set to run at certain timed intervals. Upon retrieving new information, than it will mass email all those following that same RSS source. As far as jw.org goes, I am sure they can handle the traffic.

No, it should be pretty much instantaneous. You might want to check your SPAM folder and if it isn't in there, try registering again.

Just to inform all the friends here - blogtrottr checks jw.org every hour. This is awesome getting notifications for our publications. How easy!

Also this may not work for some of you and I'll explain why.

When jw.org gives your new feed link it will be invalid for blogtrottr. This is because for some reason the link that jw.org gives you begins with index.html?/ when it should begin with http://www.jw.org/apps/.

So to fix that just add "http://www.jw.org/apps/" ahead of "index.html?/" and the link will now be valid for a feed.

I'm not sure why jw.org gives an invalid link. You can't get feed from a link without knowing the server it's on lol jw.org

I use the app beyondpod and I get the files (pdf/epub/mp3/mp4/news) as soon as they are available... Sometimes even sooner than they appear in the website ;-)

If you click on the link in step number 1

 

Pick out the format you want the magazine in (PDF, EPUB, MP3,AAC) as soon as you do the jw.org website will generate the link you need. Then just follow the rest of the steps.

Is this the same or similar to what http://www.equipd.me does?

equipd.me is strictly an apple application and it doesn't send out any emails saying that there is something new - instead - IF you made the selection in options - the icon has a number that says "something" new has appeared. You then have to open the app to see what it is.

 

This would be - get an email alert that there is something new.

Update Broken Bookmarks

We recently changed the address (URL) of some website features. If your bookmark no longer works, use the menus to navigate to the feature and then update your bookmark with the new address.

I do not have an updated link for this right now, but will post it when I find one. Funny, I had forgotten all about this topic. Since some member will post a link to a new  publication download as soon as it comes up, I stopped using this four year old process.
