  1. I was walking into town the other day and as there was nothing urgent I had to or needed to think about, I decided to enjoy a few minutes recreational thinking, as I like to call it. I recalled the days when I first attended the Kingdom hall as a six year old. I noticed most of the congregation closed their eyes during prayers. Mother never instructed me to close my eyes, so I simply bowed my head and listened. I've never bothered to explore this further, though occasionally I'd wonder where the practice came from. Most likely from Christendom where, I'd imagine, closed eyes are supposed to aid concentration. But I've never done so. Now we're on Zoom I can see that most brothers offering prayers do close their eyes. I tend to focus on a spot on the floor or the back of the seat in front of me. What are your thoughts on this? Eyes open or eyes closed during prayers?
  2. Don’t see myself doing one single job during the thousand years. Wouldn’t mind my first occupation to be that of an Iconoclast in the style of Deu.12:2,3.
  3. My mother. She so wanted to live to see the end of this old world. She’ll be wanting to know how her three boys and their families got on after she died. Can’t wait to tell her all about it.
  4. I've been using this for many years on my Windows 7 laptops and computers. Create an new folder and name it: DavidMc.{ED7BA470-8E54-465E-825C-99712043E01C} Change DavidMc to anything you want. No need to download risky software.
  5. I'm looking forward to having good nights sleeps. Can't remember the last time I had a nights sleep where I didn't have to get up at least two or three times. I wake up tired, I live tired and I go to bed exhausted. So getting used to the good healthy sleep patterns of my youth again is one of the things I'm so looking forward to. Then I'll be able to work with real energy, doing my bit for Jehovah in that New World to Come.
  6. If you look at the screen-grab of my iPhone screen you'll see the first four music videos. I go along the row and tap to download each file, not waiting for one to finish before downloading the next. So within seconds I'm downloading four videos simultaneously. As soon as one or two have finished downloading, I move on to the next four, and so on. I keep tapping to download more at once this way until my internet connection starts to reach a point where it slows down the downloads. Usually I can download ten videos at once. As one finishes downloading I add the next so keeping the download numbers to about ten. Yes I wish there were a way to bulk download. This is the quickest way I've found. When downloading literature I can increase simultaneous downloads like this to close to twenty at once.
  7. Yes I have made my own hand gel sanitizer using isopropyl alcohol and glycerine as an experiment. However, as I've no idea of it's actual alcohol strength beyond an guesstimated value of 50 - 60%, I won't be using during this covid-19 pandemic. When I looked into making my own hand gel sanitizer I looked at the contents of a few different brands. All contained as the main ingredients: alcohol (isopropyl alcohol and/or ethanol) - though none gave the actually strength percentage. Plus something used as a vehicle to hold the alcohol while you rub it on your hands. Most used glycerine (glycerin) others used chemicals with similar properties. If you Google home made hand gel sanitizer you'll find many advocating the use of vodka, but the end product may only give you about 10% alcohol. The World Health Organization and the American CDC stipulates an alcohol content of at least 60% - 70% https://www.cdc.gov/coronavirus/2019-ncov/infection-control/hcp-hand-sanitizer.html So if you are thinking of making your own hand gel sanitizer, be very sure the end product will meet WHO and CDC guidelines. Keep safe and don't create for yourself a false sense of security with sub standard hand gel.
  8. I’m pleased you’ve got your iPad Mini. My wife and I have been fans of these since they first came out. There are three apps you may like to check out: MyTime for keeping track for your field service time and placements etc. PDF Expert. It still has, I believe, a free version. And Offline Pages. Handy to have latest few pages of JW.ORG on your pad to show people when signal strength is too low or non-existent.
  9. I use Stefano Russello’s free iPad app so the Android version should also be free. Hope you find the app useful.
  10. No formatting or colour was used. Just simply typed the post as normal into the post area then sent it.
  11. Not at all sure what the problem is. You have managed to quote my post okay.
  12. Now we are working our way through the early books in the Bible, we’re going to be confronted by many unfamiliar names and names known to us but maybe we’re unsure of the correct pronunciation. We could use WTLibrary to hear the sounds of the words and we can and should make use of the pronunciation guides in the Bible. For example: Me.hu’ja.el. However for sometime I’ve been using an app on my iPad and iPhone that is both quick and easy to access and use: “Biblical Pronunciations” by developer Stefano Russello. There are three free versions available: English, Italian and Spanish.
  13. Though knowing the Truth from our mother in the 1950s and attending a few Circuit Assemblies, it wasn’t until 1968 that I was able to attend a District Convention. This was held in Bolton soccer ground in Lancashire. I loved every minute and I especially remember the release of the Truth book. I still have my copy, now aged and battered, like myself. With mother I studied the Let God Be True book, the brown coloured 2nd edition also still in my possession. This gave me a good grounding in the basics and a love for Jehovah. Then studying the Truth book moved me to dedication and baptism.
  14. Roku still functioning as normal here in England - I’m listening to streaming music as I type this. Plus I have the option to connect my laptop and iPad to the TV using hdmi to access jw.org if I wish should Roku stop streaming.
  15. No more it ain't...at least not online in the link provided (screenshot) https://i.ibb.co/x8t7hdP/Screenshot-20190902-230102.jpg Replacement book is also yellow coloured, albeit with an animal head to match the mask.
  16. Lot of similar yellow coloured items in the image including the NEW sticker. Chances are the book was the right size and colour for the image as a whole, tying all the elements in the image together.
  17. I fondly remember old sis Makepeace in late 1950s playing a creaking foot treadle harmonium.
  18. I have a pair of two way radios in my grab bag. That reminds me its time to check they still function to spec and swap the batteries in the grab bag for new ones. There may be a time when the mobile phone networks are down or a time when they are monitored and a fast coded radio burst to the friends would be required. I do not know the make of the units with out checking - I purchased them about five years ago.
  19. Maybe the reason they use the 2013 edition is for the friends, who for whatever reason, use the paper Bible that can not be updated?
