Loje 583 Report post #1 Posted February 3 I have a collection of theocratic talks that is priceless to me. I currently have them uploaded in "Google Play." I play them daily via my Android phone, using an external wi-fi speaker. No problems whatsoever with this arrangement, as long as we have our phones, the Internet, electric and, assuming that "Google Play" remains up & running. However, in light of the times we live in, I am wondering what would be the safest way to both preserve them and, to be able to continue listening to them, should difficult times arise. If I go back to "physically" storing them, should I use CD's, DVD's or, USB flash drives? Would taking a step backward - burning them on CD or DVD and then listening to them on an old school CD/DVD (adapter or battery option) player be a good idea or, am I overreacting? Next, I realize DVD's hold more than CD's but, can they be used for audio only? I thought DVD players are typically for watching movies... Today, we encountered an unexpected electrical problem (smoking & sparks) deep within walls - lost most of the power in the home, and will be without power for at least several days. I have an extension cord plugged in to get wi-fi and keep the laptop running. But, it's makes me appreciate exactly how wired in we are - we are completely lost without Internet and electric. At least with a battery operated CD player and a good supply of batteries, we would still have access to talks, kingdom melodies and mags. Your thoughts? Thomas Walker 2,357 Report post #2 Posted February 3 A portable music player is no longer prohibitively expensive, has no moving parts; and use either USB or SD cards; both of which can store as much/more as a DVD and be a fraction of the size. 2 1 1 SUNRAY, Loje, Skookum and 1 other reacted to this Go to top

TonyWenz 2,518 Report post #5 Posted February 3 Portable players and speakers can be power dependant, so might use a lot of batteries. If you want to maximise your listening time, a usb player, or even an old phone that can take a SD memory card would play MP3 files with moving parts(saves battery power). If you use ear plugs, you can extend the battery usage. And with a solar panel, you can recharge whenever the sun shines. (PS DVD disks can be recorded with MP3 files, and can carry the same amount of information as 4 or 5 CD'S. It is dependant on the player, so check the specs.) SD card prices are hard to beat, and they require no burning... From $5 to $40 {512 Giga byte}. Plug and play! You can select the ones that interest you personally. 2 1 1 dilip kumar, Good-O, Hope and 1 other reacted to this Go to top
