My sister's suggestion as requested by a local history museum, who were asking for more local topics to research for an exhibition:

Lauriston Park LR.jpg

Lauriston Park was a village resumed when Sydney airport was being built and extended after the second world war.

It doesn't exist anymore.

So, next time you land at Sydney Airport, think of Lauriston Park.

This reminded me of something...

There's a song called "Big Yellow Taxi"

that could be this system of thing's anthem:Yes sad.gif

"Big Yellow Taxi"

They paved paradise
And put up a parking lot
With a pink hotel, a boutique
And a swinging hot spot

Don't it always seem to go
That you don't know what you've got til its gone
They paved paradise
And put up a parking lot

They took all the trees
And put 'em in a tree museum
And they charged the people
A dollar and a half to seem 'em

No no no
Don't it always seem to go,
That you don't know what you've got
Til its gone
They paved paradise
And put up a parking lot

Hey farmer farmer
Put away the DDT
I don't care about spots on my apples
Leave me the birds and the bees
Please!

Don't it always seem to go
That you don't know what you've got
Til its gone
They paved paradise

And put up a parking lot
Hey, now they paved paradise
To put up a parking lot
Why not?

Listenin' late last night
I heard the screen door slam
And a big yellow taxi
Took my girl away

Now, don't it always seem to go
That you don't know what you've got
Til its gone
They paved paradise
And put up a parking lot

Hey now, now
Don't it always seem to go
That you don't know what you got
Til its gone
They paved paradise
To put up a parking lot
Why not?

They paved paradise
To put up a parking lot
Hey hey hey
Paved paradise
To put up a parking lot

I don't want to give it
Why do you want to give,
Why you want to give it all away?
Hey hey hey

Now you want to give it,
Ah she want to give it
Cause she givin' it all away
Now now now

I don't want to give it
Why do you want to give,
Why do you want to give it all away?
Giving it all, giving it all away

Why do you want it?
Why do you want it? (She's giving it all away)

Hey, pave paradise
Put up a parking lot

Sigh.gif

The knowledge that Jehovah is, very shortly, going to UNpave paradise keeps me goin'.YES Happy.gif

Speaking of nonsense ... my son wrote me a poem last year (he was 15 years old at the time):2015-09-04 18.39.50.jpg

Up in the North we call those south island quips or jokes ... like what is white and heavy and up a tree? - A refrigerator!

He's certainly following in the paths of other great poets - *cough *cough.

There is always the classic 'What's brown and sticky? ... A stick ...'

And of course the koala joke series:

Why did the koala fall out of the tree?

It was dead.

Why did the second koala fall out of the tree?

It was tied to the first koala.

Why did the third koala fall out of the tree? -

It thought it was a game.

Why did the man cycling through the bush fall off his bike?

He was hit by three koalas.
