Extracting images for use intaslks

I've tried unsuccessfully to extract images from our organization's publications either in PDF or on the Watchtower library,i would like to use the images in a public talk,but don't seem able to do so, is there a way of doing so,or is it just a matter of scanning the book & saving that way ?

Two ways on a windows computer.

 

1) using Adobe Reader in the EDIT tab click on Take a Snapshot and then click on the page. It will copy the whole page or you can lasso the picture and it will copy just the pic. In either case it will be in your Clipboard and all you need to do is paste in a photo editor. Crop and save as PNG or Jpeg.  (in Adobe Reader the pic may need to be enlarged to fit screen as much as possible before taking a Snapshot, it will not be as grainy as enlarged in photo editor) 

 

2) With the picture enlarged to fill the screen click on Ctrl and then Print Scrn. Again it is Copied to the Clipboard. Paste in photo editor. Crop and save as PNG or Jpeg.

I use the Windows Snipping tool, I find it very easy to capture anything on the screen.

Sumatra PDF works better for just pictures. It even removes the words over the pictures.

Thanks for the replies.

rocket - i've taken the snapshot,but can't find clipboard in Windows 7 ,all i've got is something called clip organiser & all this lets me do is paste the image into a word doc,i copied the image using clipboard in adobe reader,but can't seem to do anything with it,it won't paste into photoshop

 

pnutts - downloaded sumatra,i can copy the image,but can't paste it anywhere

 

I'm fairly computer literate,but never tried saving PDF images before

Do you use JW Library?  Then using the file explorer go to the folder.  (Folder may be hidden)

C:\Users\ <your user name here> \AppData\Local\Packages\WatchtowerBibleandTractSo.45909CDBADF3C_5rz59y55nfz3e\LocalState\Publications

There you find the folders for the publications you have downloaded.  Inside them will be the image files.

 

Or what about Epubs?

Use an extractor like 7zip to extract the epub file.  Images are located in the folder OEBPS\Images

 

Or open the publication from within Watchtower Online Library or jw.org, click on the image and right-click, save as.

Much easier that extracting images from the PDFs.  Of course, if you need the pdf image, then please ignore my ramblings.

I use Irfanview ( freeware ) as image viewer/editor for light duty stuff.  In Sumatra PDF ( freeware ) - right click on image - copy image open Irfanview /edit paste - save as - in folder of your choice.

That is how I got picture above.

Saves whole page with words. If want without words  -Sumatra PDF and Irfanview works quite well. Sometimes you may have to stitch picture together - can be done with Irfanview  -Edit/paste special.

Our speaker today used images in his talk and it was a mess. 

 

Our KH has an Mac so a brother puts all of the meeting material in a folder, numbers everything in it so it shows in order, then we use the Quick View feature to show it. The brother that puts the folder together will insert a black jpeg between the pictures so we can show an image, go to the black one then show the next image at the right time.

 

The speaker had a USB but he didn't organize his images, he didn't insert a black image between the images and he didn't include his opening song video on the USB. The poor sound brother had to close the song video then open the files on the USB and find the right image, unfortunately everything he did was visible to the audience. The last image the brother used was at the very end of his talk so the poor sound brother had to close out the speakers files and set up for the WT song and images, again, everything he did was visible to the audience.

 

If you use images, be kind to the sound department and make sure you understand what they need to make your talk successful...

I am not much on photoshop but i just pasted a pic from a pdf into photoshop elements 10. In photoshop Click on File and then click on New and then Image from clipboard.

If you use photoshop it's really easy. Just drag and drop the PDF file in the PS and a dialog window will open asking you if you want to open 'page' or 'image'. If you choose image, it already has all images contained in the file stripped of all text.
I use it all the time to extract images, although lately for the meetings I download the workbook or watchtower as jwpub and then unzip the files. All images are there.

Thanks. It is nice to know where all those images are.

 

Now, do you also know where the "blank screen" image is that has the "JW" logo in the bottom right corner that is displayed when there are no other images being displayed.
