Extreme weather in Melbourne

The Bureau of Meteorology (BoM) upped the possible upper amount of rain that could fall in Melbourne over the next five days from 150mm to 200mm and warned rainfall records could be broken in parts of the state.

BoM senior meteorologist Scott Williams said, “This is an event of absolute massive scale, half the inhabitants of Melbourne have never ever seen anything like this.”

 

“The real risk in Melbourne is the next six to eight hours. A trough will move its way into Melbourne probably around 5-6pm (Friday).”  (which is roughly in 3 hours from now)

Just got sms storm warning for tomorrow...

 

Victorians have been warned that the worst of the forecast super storm is yet to come with Saturday expected to bring heavier downpours and more risk of flooding.

Just spoke to someone in a Govt dept in Melbourne.  He said it's started to peter out.  But looks like a long drawn out storm regardless.  Stay safe Melbournians (at a safe distance 4000km away in sunny Perth)!
