The world looks to UNGA for hope

But without the UN’s tireless fight for world peace and its parallel battle against hunger, poverty, illiteracy, poor health and the other targets of its Sustainable Development Goals, how much worse a place might the world be today?

The UN, as its late secretary general Kofi Annan once said, is the “last best hope of humanity”. The annual General Assembly, at which almost every nation in the world has a platform, is the tangible manifestation of its unique role. It might be flawed, cumbersome and its reach might often fall short of its grasp. But without the UN, where else can the world turn for hope?

How sad it's to see nations being blind to the operation of God's Kingdom..Psalm 2:1,2

Why are the nations agitated
And the peoples muttering an empty thing?
The kings of the earth take their stand
And high officials gather together as one
Against Jehovah and against his anointed one

They are looking in the wrong place...

*** w13 3/15 p. 23 par. 15 Jehovah—Our Place of Dwelling ***
As Satan’s world nears its end, its “pangs of distress” will get worse. (Matt. 24:7, 8) Things will definitely get worse during the great tribulation. Infrastructures will collapse, and people will fear for their very lives. (Hab. 3:16, 17) Out of sheer desperation, they will, as it were, seek refuge “in the caves and in the rock-masses of the mountains.” (Rev. 6:15-17) But neither literal caves nor mountainlike political and commercial organizations will afford any protection.

US President Donald Trump has made the delegates at the UN general assembly laugh - seemingly without attempting to do so.

Mr Trump told the assembly he was sharing the "extraordinary progress" of his administration, two years after taking office.

UN chief: World suffering from 'trust deficit disorder'

  • The world is suffering from "trust deficit disorder," UN Secretary General Antonio Guterres said in remarks ahead of world leaders' speeches at the UN headquarters in New York.

  • People are losing faith in political establishments, power relations are unclear and "democratic principles are under siege," Guterres said.

  • "The world is more connected, yet societies are becoming more fragmented. Challenges are growing outward, while many people are turning inward," the UN chief added.
