Have to laugh at this poster shown in previous posts demanding people here all use Queen's English = What is Queen's English??" Her name is Elizabeth of the family Sax Coburg Gotha of Germany and her husband Prince Philip Battenburg & of the house Schleswig-Holstein-Sonderburg-Glucksburg once nephew of the ex-king of Greece - also of German/Denmark/Russian royal families. Their English has no resemblance to most of the country's spoken English. 

 

UK and Britain has always been an immigrant and moving population. It's merely convenient to have English as a language to live and work here now, but not many just have it alone. How many British people, in these 4 nations of the UK,  by birth and many generations have gaelic/gallic/Welsh as what they speak at home for a few thousand years and it's nothing like English, which is from Angles or Anglo-Saxon's from Germany and only spoken in more recent centuries since printing and state education and some enforcement that didn't completely work, but spread it about.

 

Until the 1300s rulers spoke (old) French, Southern folk spoke Anglo-Saxon/German and Northern folk spoke Norse/old Scandanavian and the folk far west and North and far south east spoke the Celtic tongues of the natives pushed to the edges by the Romans centuries before - but their tongue (Romans) - only carried on in the church. So what is English if not a morphed mongrel off all the above, which is why we have so many different words for the same things and it's still evolving as Asians and Africans add their words into our language. 

 

These nationalist nuts would have us stop using foreign words next and we'd be silent as nearly all our vocabulary is immigrant!

You made some great points Helen.. but then logic and patriotism never went together did it 🙄

 

To follow their reasoning to the full conclusion these same people should also demand the migrant  Brits should return back here as they are corrupting other nation's identities too.. 

That would go down well... I don't think.

All those who migrated for a better life out of the UK  must come back too? Somehow I don't think they'd like someone telling them what to do either.

 

I wonder if the person who posted that notice, has migrant relatives?

Hmm.. Perhaps.. Anglo American will just weaken.. We know that is the last world empire.. It will stand as world power though.
