Any of our brothers and sisters live in and around the Whaley Bridge Spillway in Derbyshire, UK ?

6,000 people have been evacuated below the damaged dam. :(

Another case of failing infrastructure.  :(

We don't live near but it's not very far from us either. We have a lot of dams and natural reservoirs here in the area and they are massive. Just thinking about one of these breaking sends shivers down your spine.

As usual there are people refusing to evacuate the area. They sent in the RAF to look into repairing the dam and pumping water out of the reservoir. The problem is that they have forecasted heavy rain and thunderstorms today.

They say the risk of the dam breaking is still a very real threat. It reminds of a dam breakage in the 1800's also in Derbyshire which caused a great flood. You wouldn't believe how much water was released to flow all the way down to Sheffield which was 8 miles away and still kill 240 people and destroy 600 homes. You can read up on this here:

So understandably they have to evacuate a good chunk of the area and work really hard to repair the damage.

Repairing might have the wrong wording.. it's more like patching up with sandbags😋
