Stock Markets Plummet

In two days, the Dow had plummeted by 838 points, wiping out all its gains from the September quarter.

The benchmark S&P 500 and tech-heavy Nasdaq indices lost 1.8 and 1.6 per cent respectively.

 

Australian ASX sheds 80 Billion in 2 days.

Edit: this is why - if you invest in the stock market - you can't look at just one or two days. It is the trend over months that really tells anything.

 

It's been rocky for the last few years, but over all flat since Jan 2018 ->

OK ... guess I just don't quite understand - if there was a "sell off" didn't somebody have to buy what was sold?  How can there be a "selling off" if no one is buying?

Yes, but when you have people who are desperate to sell they will cut the price. This makes the market price go down.

There is always someone buying. But at a lower sale price. Me for example.

Yet, when Walmart sells their stuff at lower prices they call it a "Sale" - and people think it is a GOOD thing ... especially on Black Friday.
