Anyone a fan of the beatles

Recommended Posts

Yeah, from the start, we saw Paul McCartney and Wings live back in early 90's, Detroit, Mi. I really didn't think that they ( the Beatles)  were going to make it when I first heard their music when I was in junior high school, but then it just took off, I was a Motown fan and early rock n roll, the British invasion took a hold of me as it did most of us  here in the states!

I use to be until John Lennon made the statement back in 1966

"I do not know what will go first, rock'n'roll or Christianity … we're more popular than Jesus now".

It's fair to say the words didn't go down too well at the time - I had to google the exact wording!

August 11, 1966: John Lennon defends his claim that the Beatles are 'more popular than Jesus':

In the late summer of 1966, the Beatles’ popularity in America – previously unshakeably strong - had been threatened after a comment made by John Lennon to a British journalist that the band were now “more popular than Jesus” was reprinted in a US magazine.

"If I had said television is more popular than Jesus, I might have got away with it...” he began. “I used the word 'Beatles' as a remote thing… as ‘those other Beatles’ like other people see us. I just said 'they' are having more influence on kids and things than anything else, including Jesus.

me - I am not defending his statement , but I think what he was trying to say was in effect they were more popular because all of the young ones who were following them were giving up on religion as were the older adults, they were seeing the hypocrisy and music was their replacement, a lot of things were going on at that time and the young especially were starting to question both religion and the government.Needless to say, it wasn't a good thing to say for their publicity. You either like their music or you don't. It never bothered me at the time because I knew what the religions were teaching  was false even though I wasn't going to meetings at that time because of my situation and also lack of appreciation.

Beatles' Magical Mystery Tour piano sketches found in skip

"Builder Andy Clynes, 54, found them in 1999 as he converted a mill into a wine bar near Manchester.

He put the sketches in his loft but recently decided to get them valued. They will be auctioned on 24 March."

The sketches and designs for Sir Paul's piano will go under the hammer at Omega Auctions in Newton-le-Willows, Merseyside.

Auctioneer Paul Fairweather described the papers as a "rare find".

Mr Clynes added: "I've had them for 20-odd years. You put things away and forget about them and then something triggers your mind.

"I haven't planned what I'll do with the money yet but I was surprised about the value."

If you don’t like the Beatles.....you don’t like music. :coffee: (IMHO:lol:)

I think part of their beauty was that the tunes were fairly simple but appealed to the average person. McCartney &Lennon are among the most successful songwriters of all time. They came up with melodies and lyrics that are imbedded in our brains (that generation).
It’s going to take a thousand years to get that out of our heads......not that it’s bad, but we’ll have a new system.

There was an excellent documentary on BBC tv (now on iPlayer) in which composer Howard Goodall examines the Sergeant Pepper album and demonstrates the innovative nature of the music.  Unusual chord changes and novel techniques to produce the sounds making up the music and assembled layer by layer in a technique never before done, and all with 4-track tape!

When Pepper was released I was not very impressed by it but have come to appreciate it more with time. (My taste in 1967 was Hendrix and Cream)

The most recent release of Pepper remixed by George Martin's son is revelatory!

I join with the above recommendation for the movie Yesterday - excellent!

Do you have a favourite Beatles song? I'll tell you mine later....have to go offline now.

It’s so hard to narrow it down to a favorite. There’s so many good ones 😁

The Hebrew word cushi or kushi is an affectionate term generally used in the Bible to refer to a dark-skinned person of African descent.
