TITUSVILLE, Fla. -- Two skydivers in Florida were critically injured Wednesday after an apparent parachute malfunction, according to local authorities.

Police in Titusville, a town approximately 40 miles east of Orlando, said the two adult men had jumped together from a plane that had taken off from nearby Dunn Airport.

Eyewitness video showed the two men in a free fall, circling one another as they plummeted toward the ground. Police said the two men hit a tree and landed in the front yard of a home on Tennessee Street around 10:30 a.m. local time.

They SURVIVED?  *thud*

That tree must have been a softwood instead of a hardwood.  *groan*

I had passively mentioned to our new school superintendent two years ago that I have always thought it would be neat to parachute out of a plane.   Well,  little did I know that one morning they called me into a school assembly and gave me a huge card and a little plastic man with a parachute.    It didn't even connect at that moment in my mind what was going on.   Then in front of the school assembly she said, "This is a gift from the staff....we got together and decided that you should get your wish...to parachute from a plane.     They had gone together and pulled donations for me to do a parachute jump.    Well, of course just because someone thinks it would be neat doesn't mean that they Literally want to go through with it.    I had to decide on a 'jump date' with the air field.     I was dragging it out all the while  very reluctantly.     In the meantime  a former school secretary's step son who was in the military and was a paratrooper had jumped to his death at 41 years old because his chute malfunctioned.    He was a professional.    WELL,  that did it for me!    I was very skeptical anyways and all this came on me as a great surprise.    (You know the saying, "Be careful what you wish for")   Well, I learned to hold my thoughts in front of my superintendent because she is one to try and make things happen if at all possible.    Yes,  it was very kind of her and the staff.   But just because I have always thought it would be neat doesn't mean that I actually want to carry through with it.    I have thought it also might be neat to be a lion tamer!   lol       Anyways,  I told  her about the fatality of the paratrooper and that I didn't feel I wanted to carry through with the GIFT.  But that I really appreciated the kind thought.      I still have the jump voucher tucked away  but NEVER to be used for the reason noted in the above article.  A  high risk ordeal  doesn't suite me at 69  years old.     I like my health just the way it is!

Back before I was born my mother was in a small airplane (two seat model) when it fell from the sky. It fell 3,000 feet and, just before it hit the ground, one of the wings struck a power line. The power line slowed the plane and flipped it over. My mother was not seriously injured (or so they thought) but the pilot died. They think he may have had a heart attack and that it may have been the cause of the accident.

They found out later that she had actually sustained damage to her spine and about 15 years later she had to have 2 disks removed from her lower back and the vertebrae fused together.

Had that wing not struck that powerline she may not have survived I would not be here to tell you about this.
