"Exhalation" by Ted Chiang is fantastic; some of the best SF stories I've read since I picked up "The Illustrated Man" by Ray Bradbury.   What are your favorite SF novels/stories?

How they managed to leave out any of Robert Heinlein's "Stranger in a Strange Land" beats me. I didn't particularly like it but it had a great reception

I have probably red several of these listed, I remember Dune which I did not like and never finished, but The Martian Chronicles was, IMHO, mind was outstanding.

Done didn't interest me either. Heinlein, Asimov, Bradbury and others are SFcold masters. I like short stories and generally appreciated Harlan Ellison and R.A. Lafferty.

I don’t believe in top tens when is based on personal opinion.

When is based on sales ...for example top ten books sold in 2019, then it’s a different story.

But still sales do not guarantee that the book will appeal to me personally. 
Top tens are flawed.

I like almost anything by Larry Niven, his "known space" series of short stories to all of the Ringworld novels. His collaborations with Jerry Pournell are also good, well researched. "Lucifer's hammer" and "Footfall" are my favorites of the collaborations.

I find the lack of Asimov disturbing.

Good one for Dune, though. It's great.

Likewise, how was Asimov overlooked?

I think the reason I couldn't get into Dune was it was becoming a religous cult by the time I got around to it. He had enough influence on the genre that the sandworm made it to Star Wars.That became a lawsuit.

I don’t like sci-fi but I love Jurassic park. Can’t believe that’s not on there.
