A random thread of absolute randomness...

Recommended Posts

So because when you make a gmail account now, you HAVE to use a phone number to even verify you're real. It has to be a real number so virtual numbers dont work.

Anyways, because of thid ive reached the max amount of gmail accounts that you can link with one number. Idk how many accounts that is exactly. I have over 10 google accountw, some were made way back in the day before 2fa was a thing, and not all of my newer ones are connected to a phone number.

It also sucks that now in order to make a youtube account you NEED a google account whereas before you can use any account.

This crazy monopoly that Alphabet inc (google) has is insane. I need a way to break free from them...

Though in good news, the yahoo account i made in 2006 is still up and active.

FAQ:

Q:why do you need so many email accounts?

A: the real question is, why do you have so little?

I have two gmail accounts, 1 for the ministry, and the first one i ever had with them
I have one MSN account, back when it was in beta.

And I have a JWpub.org account. That's all I think I need.

Some interesting things you probably didn't know about email is you can have one email account but still use a different email address for each place that requires an email address.

Instance, if you are someone@gmail.com. You could give the address someone+fieldservice@gmail.com and you would still receive it. At someone@gmail.com. It's useful to know when and who leaks your email address.

And you actually can do this with any email address

I got my first email account 29 years ago when the net started out as bulletin boards. Dial up 28.8 kb if you please.

My 2nd account was with excite which is now gone.

I got my first account from a "freenet". It was a local effort from the city, the university and some non-profit people so that those who didn't have access or funds for access could get a free way to connect.

At that time, I had a 1200 bit modem. In addition to the modem speed, going from text based to Windows was a real experience. With Windows and a 14.4 kb modem, we felt like we were speeding along. When Windows 3.1 came out - that was a game changer. Coupled with the 14.4 kb dialup modem it was a fast connection compared to the 1200. The 28.8 wasn't out yet. I ended up passing on the 28.8 and wasn't able to upgrade until the 56k modems came out. The 56k and Windows XP made such a change we wondered why we ever thought 14.4 was fast.

Our area didn't have DSL when it came out, so I had to stay with the 56k dialup until we got cable. With cable, we no longer had to use dialup. I'm glad we no longer have to use dialup and listen to the beeping tones while it dialed and then the whistles, chirps, bings and bongs and other sounds of the handshaking.

For those who have never heard a dialup modem connecting

mmm i miss the sound of dial up. Hey you remember those old printers with the dots and holds and rippy paper? That would go  eh EHHHHHHHHH eh EH EH EH EH eh EHHHHHHHHHHHHH eh EH EH EH EH.... EH EH EH....EH EH EH...EH EH EH...EH EH EH....eh EHHHHHHHHHH (repeat). Imma see if i can find it on youtube somewhere...I cant find one that sounds like that, but i swear thats how my printer sounded (However i guess maybe it depends on what you were printing?). I had an apple computer back then, pretty sure it was an apple 1 or 2, my aunt gave it to me.

Those were dot-matrix printers. My first one for standard size paper but I later had a wide carriage one and bought the paper in cardboard boxes that sat on the floor under the printer stand.

Hey!! I'm back with the random questions again!

I'm curious...can a witness benefit from generational military benefits? For example, USAA has tons of benefits for people in the military and their children. My mom was in the military so i can reap the benefits of cheaper insurance and all that stuff?

Yes - a current witness who served can also benefits

example - VA Hospital or USAA

- they would still identify themselves as witness @ hospital

they would never dress up as military to get a free meal

or promote their support of the military

in in the end- as long as they are neutral  most situations are  considered a conscious matter

USAA

USAA is a legitimate insurance and financial services company established in 1922 to serve U.S. military members and their families. It offers a range of products, including auto, home, and life insurance, as well as banking services .

However, USAA has faced significant criticism in recent years. The Better Business Bureau reports over 4,000 complaints in the past three years, with a customer rating of 1.16 out of 5 stars . Common issues include poor customer service, delayed claim processing, and denial of legitimate claims. In 2023, USAA denied nearly 48% of homeowners’ insurance claims, a rate higher than the national average .

Additionally, USAA has been involved in legal challenges, including a $64 million settlement over unsubstantiated fees and a $3.25 million settlement related to a data breach affecting 32,000 customers .

As always, buyer beware.

Oh, is that what it was. I paid for the "Triple Your Score" option, and yet you still got more points than me.

Police Officer gets grilled by a Lawyer in Court. What he says next is classic.

If you ever testify in court, you might wish you could have been as sharp as this policeman.

He was being cross-examined by a defense attorney during a felony trial.

The lawyer was trying to undermine the policeman's credibility...

Q: "Officer did you see my client fleeing the scene?"

A: "No sir. But I subsequently observed a person matching the description of the offender, running several blocks away."

Q: "Officer -- who provided this description?"

A: "The officer who responded to the scene."

Q: "A fellow officer provided the description of this so-called offender. Do you trust your fellow officers?

A: "Yes, sir. With my life."

Q: "With your life? Let me ask you this then officer. Do you have a room where you change your clothes in preparation for your daily duties?"

A: "Yes sir, we do."

Q: "And do you have a locker in the room?"

A: "Yes sir, I do."

Q: "And do you have a lock on your locker?"

A: "Yes sir."

Q: Now why is it, officer, if you trust your fellow officers with your life, you find it necessary to lock your locker in a room you share with these same officers?"

A: "You see, sir – we share the building with the court complex, and sometimes lawyers have been known to walk through that room."

The courtroom erupted in laughter, and a prompt recess was called.

The officer on the stand has been nominated for this year's "Best Comeback" line and we think he’ll win.

Urgency doesn’t mean living without joy. It means living with purpose. It means adjusting expectations—relationships, goals, even our emotional investments—in light of what matters most. Not everything can come with us on the road to life. Some things have to be left behind so we can move freely toward the One calling us forward.

So when we feel that gentle pressure to decide—to pioneer, to simplify, to study more deeply, to forgive—let’s not resist it. That’s not fear whispering. It’s love inviting.

The time left is reduced. Let’s not reduce our response.

So i mentioned joining the ymca for gym membership and my bible teacher said not to that they supported something.  I didnt catch what she said and when i asked her to repeat it she didnt. Is it possible she was referring to the village people? Idk if the ymca actually has a hardcore lgbt connection. I always figured it just got caught up in a song and went with it 🤷🏿‍♀️.

YMCA doesn't stand for "You Must Call Again" :whistling:

Fair enough, but dang if we're gonna go based on name and stuff (im sure theres more to YMCA, i havent fully looked into it) would that mean that Hobby Lobby and Chick Fil A also be off limits since they are also Christian based, which would be ironic because the same person that told me to stay away from ymca goes to cfa and hl as well.

Random rant.

Look i know we don't celebrate holidays, and that's fine. But I feel that, if you have to work on a 'holiday' and you get nothing for it, no double pay or anything like that. It aint a holiday, it's a regular day. What am i celebrating, having to work while corporations and banks are filling their pocket with more money capitalizing on said holiday? No, either let EVERYONE benefit or have the day off for a holiday, or just dont have the holiday at all. Don't celebrate it, don't advertise it, don't sell for it, if it aint gonna benefit everyone. And that's how i feel. As someone that worked holidays and got nothing from it in the past, to me now knowing my husband is working a 12 hour shift and aint getting any extra benefits from it...IDC that he's pasty white and the sun will reflect off him and blind oncoming traffic, there are lots of places closed today for the holiday, let him and his 95% black coworkers, benefit from today as well. I used to work on easter, got nothing for it, i didn't get double pay making people subway foot long subs. There are doctors out there, already getting paid peanuts, and gotta work while their friends are probably off. Make holidays worth it, or just dont have them....

Okay i'm done (gets off my soap box)

I hear your frustration, and you’re definitely not alone in feeling this way. It does seem unfair when others get the day off or extra perks while you or your loved ones have to push through a long shift without anything extra. But just for context—there’s actually no federal law that requires private employers to give paid holidays or extra pay (like time-and-a-half) for working on one. Federal holidays only apply to federal agencies; private companies aren’t obligated unless state laws or contracts say otherwise.

Some states—like Massachusetts or Rhode Island—do require holiday pay for certain industries, but most don’t. So technically, what your husband (or you in the past) experienced isn’t new—it’s how it’s always been for most workers unless they have a union, contract, or specific state protection.

It’s totally fair to be bothered by that. But if we’ve already stepped away from celebrating these holidays, it might help to view them as just another day—not something we’re missing out on. After all, we know real blessings come from Jehovah—not corporate policies.

Just wanted to share that perspective respectfully. You’re absolutely entitled to how you feel. ❤️
