Oh Microsoft! You've done it again. [emoji2359]

Microsoft issued an emergency Windows security update yesterday (Aug. 19) to correct two remote-access flaws that could let hackers take over your PC.

But before you go rushing to install the update, check your operating system. The flaws being fixed affect only Windows 8.1 and the corresponding server version, Windows Service 2012 R2. They may also affect Windows 8 and Windows 7, but Microsoft no longer supports those and isn't providing any fixes for them.

Details here to investigate further:

Microsoft has had lots of issues over the months with updates that cause more problem than they solve.

On several occasions I've had to roll back the updates to clear the situation, and it's happening all too often.

I'm on Windows 10.

Yeah. I agree with you. I really don't understand Microsoft's thinking on Windows 10. Every six months you get a new operating system, which brings along a whole new set of problems every six months. I kept version 1809 for the longest time, not wishing to update any further because of not knowing what new bugs would come with it. For the most part, any later updates came at the price of losing all sound! I couldn't live with that and kept rolling back to get the sound again.

Then, when I updated from 1809 to 1909, it did something bad with the hard drive and the computer stopped working for good! It was outside of warranty by that time so I had to get a SSD put in and version 1909 installed from scratch. It actually worked okay after the upgrade to 2004, which surprised me.

If I had my way I'd go back to Windows 7 and keep it forever. It was so stable!

It's funny - I have two PC's that barely meet the minimum requirements for Win 10 and neither has has any problem on any of the updates.

This report discusses some of the problems which showed up a few weeks ago.

I just tend nowadays to leave updates for a little while, rejecting the upload, until sufficient time has passed for issues to show up.
