“Microsoft Flight Simulator” is revealing itself to be a landmark game, particularly this last week with two disasters.

 

Earlier this week, scientists and novice stormchasers used the game to observe the already-devastating Hurricane Laura as it barreled toward through the Gulf of Mexico and on our shores. “Flight Simulator,” released this month for PC, streams the entire planet Earth in real-time, feeding in weather data from Swiss-based meteorological service Meteoblue and bolstered by the power of Microsoft’s Azure AI platform....

 

“Microsoft Flight Simulator” is a combination of global data from Bing Maps satellite data and the Azure AI cloud system to process and recreate the entire planet. At launch, the game rendered 5 billion houses and 2 trillion trees across the planet, all of which is subject to change as the world changes. The game also pulls in real-time air traffic and weather data to mirror real-world activity.

I don't have the computer/money/time to play this game but man... I'd love to fly over every bethel of the world, especially Warwick

I used to love Flight Simulator. (FS98 version) But it just took so-o-o-o-o-o-o much time playing with it!!

 

I'd be tempted to try out this new one, but you need a really fast computer for it. I'm glad I don't have the hardware for it.

Flight sticks are selling out after the release of Microsoft Flight Simulator

None of Amazon’s best-selling sticks are currently available to buy new

The recently-released Microsoft Flight Simulator is a game best enjoyed with a dedicated flight stick, but actually finding one of these controllers is a challenge. None of Amazon.com’s best-selling PC flight sticks are available to buy new as of Monday August 24th — they’re either listed as unavailable, only available used, or scheduled to be back in stock in the coming months.

It’s impossible to know if this current shortage is directly caused by the release of Microsoft Flight Simulator. Flight yokes and sticks are a relatively niche product to begin with, and, even prior to the game’s official release, people on Twitter were complaining about shortages. Meanwhile, plenty of other gaming accessories like Nintendo’s Ring Fit have also been selling out this year thanks to a combination of increased demand as people are staying at home more, and manufacturing challenges caused by the COVID-19 pandemic....

An innocent typo led to a giant 212-story obelisk in Microsoft Flight Simulator

It was only supposed to be two stories high

Edit: Someone should place a plaque in the real-life location to commemorate this 212-story building... To think that in comparison Burj Khalifa in Dubai stands at humble 163 floors!

Gamers discover massive chasm glitch in Microsoft's Flight Simulator program

"The sim gives its users the ability to fly anywhere in the world, with our planet reconstructed with real-time weather conditions using Microsoft Bing mapping technology.
So it's a little surprising that a huge terrifying abyss has opened up in the middle of Brazil.
Reddit user ReversedWindow appears to have been the first to report the freaky discovery and was brave enough to pilot an airplane down it.
Turns out it gets stranger: There's a whole airport down there. The above video, created on YouTube by user Kwad Damage, shows this remarkable journey to the centre of the Earth, while the screengrab at the top is from PC Gamer's Christopher Livingston's adventure."

I think there might still be bugs in this new FS program. First we had that super skyscraper because somebody mistyped the height of the building. Now, somebody else mistyped the elevation and went the other direction.
