I'm not great but I enjoy drawing, it helps me relax.. I mostly draw theocratic themed stuff but sometimes not, anyway I was hoping I could see some of the talent we have here! :)

Last March when we got shut down I thought I’d try painting. I never painted before, but I found it to be very relaxing and just fun. I’ve done about 20 paintings and I know they’re not that great compared to the many professional out there.....it more about the therapy I get from it than anything.
Here are 3 Bible scenes....woman at the well (John 4:) and Jesus after his resurrection telling the disciples to cast on the other side....

you know the story . John 21. The last one is Jesus calming the storm.

I can’t either. I just never tried it....assuming I couldn’t do that. I wish I had tried it long ago when I was young. Better late than never I guess.
I probably wouldn’t have had the patience back then.

You may have a talent naturally born with it.

When it comes to a painting, there are things such as perspective, proportions of the bodies, and applying the correct color schemes, etc., all which are obtained not by just randomly but though painful studies and long term exercises.

Edison left a famous quote, "a genius is 99 percent inspiration and 1 percent perspiration." 😄

With me it’s more like 99% perspiration and 1% inspiration, but I’m no genius .

The strangest thing I think, is that in my congregation there are  5 other friends that paint and have done so for a long time. One sister is very good. She gets commissioned (paid) to paint as the pros call it.  The others, I would say are better than me.

Painting is not as complicated as it looks. I think it’s a talent that can be learned to a certain  extent. Like many things, you can break it down into manageable steps. You learn certain principles that you apply in painting water or skies, or foliage etc... and the principles allow you some creative expression too.
You learn how to mix and match colors. I use oil paints so I had to learn how to blend oil colors and use mediums or additive that help the oil to dry faster and flow easier. If you can learn those principles, and the manageable steps ...the average person could create a decent painting.
Like learning an instrument. If the average person takes lessons or even tries teaching themself how to play an instrument and sticks to it,  they will eventually be able to play music. They may never become great at it, but I think they could be pretty decent.....to be great at something, I think is where the natural talent comes in.

During the "lockdowns" there was an upsurge in the Bob Ross Series - it was being shown on NetFlix and Amazon(some have been removes since) and many videos are available on YouTube (at least, they were)

He specialized in "wet-on-wet" so no need to help the oil dry faster. You might look into his videos to pick up some tips on how to paint landscapes. His work is amazing - especially when you consider that you are watching his instruction videos in "real time" - he actually could paint an entire painting in less than 30 minutes.
