JW Library installer

Recommended Posts

JW Library on Windows is from the Microsoft Store, you can't install it with Crossover. You dual boot it in Windows/Windows Virtual Machine or you don't.

Especially if you're not planning to use one much, a Surface is overpriced for what you'd be getting out of it. They aren't very capable without upgrades and accessories reaching into the $800-1000 territory. Your best bet is something like the 15" Acer Aspire 5 with Ryzen 3200U. Far more powerful, upgradable, and better value at $350-400. I've bought and set these up for other people this year. https://www.amazon.com/Acer-Display-Graphics-Keyboard-A515-43-R19L/dp/B07RF1XD36/

Another similar, more powerful Asus laptop but not as good chassis/design or screen (I think it's a TN, not IPS panel like the Acer) at $400: https://slickdeals.net/f/14684663-asus-vivobook-14-fhd-ryzen-5-8gb-ddr4-256gb-pcie-ssd-399-walmart-399?src=catpagev2

Not possible to get them for this price now, but during Black Friday there were even some very capable (but not upgradable) laptops for as low as $162 that I know some bought and work well. https://www.walmart.com/ip/seort/255908199

The best used Windows machines that I know are usually available are these business USFF PCs from HP. You can find them with a 4th gen i5, 4-8GB of RAM, a 128-256GB SSD, and Windows 10 for as low as $100 rarely, though usually closer to $125-150. https://www.ebay.com/itm/HP-EliteDesk-800-G1-USFF-PC-Core-i5-4590T-2-00GHz-8GB-RAM-128GB-SSD-Windows-10/383870622964?hash=item596078dcf4%3Ag%3A22YAAOSwG45f4hD9&LH_BIN=1

There's also some comparable new mini PCs: https://www.amazon.com/AK1-Windows-Processor-Computer-Ethernet/dp/B07D77W8CZ/

Is it like AutoCAD?

It is a type of AutoCAD clone.  The menus and keyboard actions are very similar. I forget the name of the underlying CAD program (it is available commercially for about $300.  It is a consortium of members and we joined to be able to give the program away for free,  It is specially tailored to our needs and has a MEPS feature added to intergrate it into our Watchtower system.

Only LDC participants in the CAD work can access it.  Last year, I had had to retire from that aspect of my theocratic service due to eyesight problems.

Don't talk bad about the surface (:p) because it is a very good device with an added feature - It can be also a tablet. There is not many devices that are like that

Also the surface Go, a small version, is even better because it serves all puporposes, ministry wise, with its sleak size 😉

I didn't say the Surface line were bad devices. They're just a poor value for the use case and options, and still are even for 2-in-1's. I recently picked up the Lenovo Chromebook Duet (ChromeOS tablet with cover/stand and keyboard dock) for ~$240 w/ tax (currently $250 at Best Buy) to replace my 5+ year old tablet. It's got a great 10" screen, a 10 hour battery, it comes with the keyboard dock without spending an extra $150, it runs Chrome and Android and Linux apps, supports USI styli, very positive reviews, etc. I haven't tested hosting Zoom with ChromeOS outside of 1 on 1 setting up people's devices, but it probably can along with screen sharing since the Chrome Zoom App lets you use the participants and chat windows properly. I also have a cheap USB C dock for HDMI second screen and managing multiple windows. Of course, I usually prefer to use my Windows laptop for hosting Zoom. Last year I picked up the Lenovo Flex 14" IPS 2-in-1 with a Ryzen 3500U APU, 12GB DDR4 RAM, 256GB NVME SSD, including a Stylus for $450. Both are far better values than a Surface Go 2, the laptop being more powerful than a highly specced Surface Pro.
