Yes.  The new Secretary-General will start in January.  The new one will need to have the approval of all 5 Permanent members of the Security Council and at least 4 members of the current 10 non-permanent members.

Also, the new Secretary-General can't be from any of the permanent member nations. 

 

I think the new SG will be instrumental in the outworking of Rev 17:17, while Trump is President.

There are 8 candidates:

 

1. Carolyn Rodrigues-Birkett — Guyana — leading the latest informal poll.

 

2. Rebeca Grynspan — Costa Rica — in second place and one of the frontrunners.

 

3. Rafael Grossi — Argentina — among the leading candidates.

 

4. Michelle Bachelet — Chile — a candidate, but has lost momentum.

 

5. María Fernanda Espinosa — Ecuador — candidate.

 

6. Macky Sall — Senegal — candidate.

 

7. Olara Otunnu — Uganda — candidate.

 

8. Ivonne Baki — Ecuador — the most recent candidate to enter the race.

 

Current situation: Rodrigues-Birkett and Grynspan are currently the two strongest contenders. The final selection is expected to take place later in 2026.
