Thoughts on my new ring? (Jewelry)

Recommended Posts

Something that has been happening more and more recently is the fact that I have been getting "hit on" a lot, by both women and men. Mind you, I am a single brother, and not interested in such attention. Especially from the men. But I live near Asheville in WNC, so we do have a lot of that going around.

Here's my story. I have never liked rings, and have never been much for flash. But, I did get a little silicone ring to ward off the unwanted attention. For the most part, it has worked wonderfully. Unfortunately though, it rubbed my finger and aggravated me to death.

I wanted a ring that meant something to me, something special. I got to thinking about my dedication to Jehovah, and thought that a ring could serve as a good reminder to me.

So, I got on my computer, drew up a face icon using GIMP, and sent it off to be engraved. I received my new signet ring a few days ago.

Now here's what the ring represents:

The J obviously represents Jehovah. W represents his people. The little angled bars remind me that Jehovah is elevated, like looking up at a strong tower, but his reach is never short. He gives us insight into the bible, and I hold his word as my authority.

I do not idolize this ring in any way. It is simply a reminder to me, in a similar way to how some people hang up framed scriptures or paintings on their wall to remind them of something from the Bible.

Now what do you think of it? Would you consider it aesthetically pleasing?

(I know some friends are touchy about showing off the JW.org logo, or other things similar. That's why I made this one myself, so as to not hurt anyone's feelings. Especially those of the legal department! I do welcome your honest thoughts.)516347c2eedb94d6d3fcc4ff2e39286d.jpg

The shape is a way too masonic for my taste... I like the idea though.
I had to look that one up. I've never given much though to the masons. What is their purpose?

That's my first impression too. It looks like  a Masonic ring to me.

It's ok for me. But it makes me wonder about a good design for a ring now :D

I have an old silver ring with my initials in it but... it's old.

I love messing around with logos and icons. Maybe I'll make some more and run them by you.

I found a guy in China that will make a  custom signet ring for $20 and ship it to you. Hey, it might not be of exceptional quality, but it's better to make a mistake and lose $20 than to make the same mistake on a 24k gold ring. I'll stick with cheap. It hurts a lot less if I get robbed! 👥🤣

There is always something that people will compare things to.  I don't find anything wrong with it.  Its a beautiful ring, its a signature ring, and it is because of your love for Jehovah you had this beautiful ring made.

Do you love it? Wear it! Nevermind what others say.  They will get over it and should not fall over it.

The ring is not ostentatious, it is handsome and quiet in its own beauty and right.

This is what matters. It worked.

The ring really is very nice. It may look Masonic, but if it doesn't cause any problems, then what's the problem? Real Masons would know that it is not their sign.

The logo is great, but the slogan throws me off. "New World Society of JW's"...It would give me the impression that we have a club within the Jehovah's Witnesses Organization, that is called New World Society. Just my weird perception.

My first impression was that it looks like the Masonic square and compass. I personally wouldn’t wear it, especially out in service because masonry at its highest levels is basically the occult. I’ve even heard from some ex masons that they are literally opposed to Jehovah and have blasphemous names they use for him in their rituals. Wouldn’t want to be confused with them.

The Hebrew word cushi or kushi is an affectionate term generally used in the Bible to refer to a dark-skinned person of African descent.

If you decide to design another ring, you might want to give some thought to a design that looks good "reversed" as well as when you look at it - since this type of ring was often used to make an impression in a hot-wax seal. The seal, once stamped, should be readable - thus the reason for the reversed image on the ring.

The ring is not offensive to me in design - but, like others mentioned, the wording is a little non-sequitur with any of our wording.

"At their 1950 Theocracy’s Increase Assembly of Jehovah’s Witnesses held at Yankee Stadium, New York city, July 30 to August 6, they accepted the designation for this visible organization of God, that of the New World Society of Jehovah’s Witnesses. Three years later at their second world assembly at Yankee Stadium the following resolution (quoted in part) was unanimously adopted, setting forth the Bible as their guiding charter:

13 “THEREFORE we, as witnesses of Jehovah and as members of his New World society, gathered in our scores of thousands from scores of lands in international assembly here at Yankee Stadium, New York city, N. Y., this 20th day of July, 1953, seize this as a most fitting occasion to adopt the following resolution: . . . THAT we publicly acknowledge our debt to Jehovah for the vision and hope he has given us of his promised new world of righteousness. . . . He has made us a New World society by his dealings with us according to his precious promises. This New World society thus derives its origin from no human source and it is dependent upon no earthly political states, applying to none of them for its incorporation as a body and for the chartering of its existence and activities. . . . THAT, as a New World society, we hold fast to the indissoluble ties that bind us. We are one people, without distinction according to race, color, language, tribe or nation. We have the one living and true God, Jehovah. We have one common Monarch under God, his Son and our Redeemer, Jesus Christ. We have a law common to us all no matter where we live, Jehovah’s theocratic law set forth in the Holy Bible. We have been taken out of the nations and divided off from the doomed world. We have the one country to which we are unitedly moving, the new world of God’s creating.”—The Watchtower, 1953, pages 507, 508." --- w62 4/1

I grew up in the 2000's, but my congregation culture was more like the 70's-90's Franz era. Everyone still called our organization "The Society" until the 2010's redesign of a lot of the organizational structure, graphics, and language.
