13 big quakes hit there just today and all appear to have hit on land.  Biggest, a 6.8, just 18 miles down.   Many of the aftershocks are only about 6 miles down.

There have been so many that I can't fit them all in the screenshot.

Yeah.  It was over 300 miles down.  The others were only 6 miles down.

Recently, I've been doing some research on earthquakes around the world and these quakes happen in the "ring-of-fire regions".  Very interesting!

brings out that quakes have been 

striking there since December 28th, 

and it was feared this was just foreshocks

to a potential BIG one.

 

It appears their fears were justified.

The buildings that were damaged yesterday

may not have been able to withstand

another big quake.  :(. Plus there have been 5.6 5.5 and 5.2 aftershocks.  

 

Two big quakes have hit today...so far.

Both close to the surface, too.
