Do western people discern facial expressions by eye brows and mouth(lips?) shapes?

Recommended Posts

I just read on the internet that while Asians (in Asia) try to read and understand people’s emotions based on their eyes

and western guys do that based on people’s eye brows and mouth and lip shapes.

Is it true? Is this, together with western openness, one of the reasons why western people refuse wearing masks more than Asians?

It may have more to do with the idea of "freedom" rather than reading faces. It almost doesn't matter what the issue is, if there is some sort of mandate, restriction, direction or recommended way to do something - many will insist on doing the opposite claiming their "freedom of choice".

It could very well be that, if they were to impose a "no mask allowed" mandate, many in the US who refused to wear a mask would demand their right to wear one.

I have heard of a story where an scientist (I cannot remember his topic) was in a remote part of the jungle where he was awoken by an indigenous tribes-person with a spear tapping him when he was lying in his sleeping bag. He not knowing the language of the people or them knowing his or the other dialects of the country he was in, as his face was the only thing they could see of him being a human as his entire body was inside his sleeping bag, he used his eyebrows to communicate that he was getting out of his sleeping bag and was not a threat to them.

That must have required lots of eye muscles!
