A way to merge JW Library files?

Recommended Posts

Good afternoon,

JWL Merge is no longer working for merging JW Library files.  Has anyone found another reliable tool to do this?  I probably need to buckle down and just use one primary source for adding new notes but it's tough.  I like my tablet for personal study at home but I don't drag it around with me to the store/errands.  Sometimes I get a few minutes to look things up on my phone and update my notes there.  So, I end up with 2 different copies of study notes in JW Library.  I hope someone has found another way to merge study notes.

The way you can have a workaround without an app is to use this practice

  1. Finished writing notes on one device? --> Make a backup and save it on the cloud or send a mail to yourself
  2. Want to make new notes on a new device? --> First, recover the previously saved backup and then make the new notes
  3. Repeat the process

I recently found this free app that works to edit JWL backup files:

https://github.com/erykjj/jwlmanager

They provide binaries for Windows, Linux and Mac.

The interface is not so nice as in the old Merger app but I think it can do a lot more things, like removing certain notes by tags, highlights, and so on.

I think it doesn't directly merge, but you can always import one of the files, export it to CSV, then open the other file and import the CSV contents.

I used Merger and it still works. My specs are the following:

iPhone 15 Pro Max with iOS 17.3

iPad 10 (2021 version) with iPad OS 17.3

MacBook Pro (2020 M1 Version) with Sonoma 14.2.1

MacMini (2020 M1 Version) with Sonoma 14.2.1

All work interchangeably.

I would make sure your iPad/Android/Windows/Mac devices are on the latest greatest operating system software with all patches. I would also make sure your devices are not end of life. If your device is end of life that means the software supporting it will be as well. Which means any new JW Library apps you get may or may not work.

See below... the matrixes might be difficult to understand but look at your current devices. Get the dates they're EOL. Do the same for the operating systems you have.

Also, anyone that's receiving an error message can you show me the screenshot or copy the error message? I might be able to diagnose. I've been in IT for 25 years. I "might" be able to help.

Thanks, Mikey. Merger is for iOS, I have never used it.

I meant JWLMerge (which was for Android) is no longer working since JW Library included textboxes. But this one app does work on Android.

Oh I see. Yeah those text boxes. Completely understand.

I'm using JWLManager. I convert to tables through this program, merge with another table through this program, and then convert to a .jwlibrary file.
It is convenient to do group editing of hashtags there.

My English is not very good, so if you see my mistakes, please tell me in the DM

I would like to try this on my 2× Android devices and my Win 11 PC.
As I get older, I am less sure of my ability. Is there any way you could write me up a step-by-step procedure so I don't make a mistake and lose everything?
I did get as far as exporting the CSV file, but then I lost my nerve. Lol

0. For example, create backups from Android and Windows JWLibrary, and send to your Computer

1. Open JWLManager.

2. File - Open - Choose .jwlibrary backup from your Android.

3. View - Select All - Export - Save .xlsx file.

4. File - Open - Choose .jwlibrary backup from your Windows.

5. Import - .xlsx file - Wait...
6. File - Save as...

Done! Test it

I see how this works... I think. But it does not allow for merging of the back-ups, which I think was the original request. I am struggeling with this too, taking a bu of my phone, my tablet and merging them with my computer that is what I used to do, but I don't think this program can do that.

Plese do correct me if I am mistaken, cause I so want to be wrong!!

I am currently using Telegram with Android and REALLY look forward to a native Sync feature so I do not have to use third party solutions .  All in the proper time, our Brothers are busy with many things.  I will be patient..... Updating to check again.... 😉

Personal Greetings from Paul and Kathy Forgive me if I got long winded, there is just so much to share.
