Hello brothers
I have a problem with JWL on Windows (only one laptop)
For several versions back, the program has not downloaded publications, video and audio. I have checked the settings several times. There were also two updates in the Microsoft Store but nothing helped. If I delete a book or a songbook, I have to download it from the website to load it into JWL.

I do not want to uninstall the program because I have a lot of publications whose source files I no longer have, e.g. from courses or trainings with my notes. Maybe you can suggest something or maybe someone knows where JWL stores the files. Maybe it is enough to delete a file, as with errors with WTL. I would be grateful for any idea

Is there a virus protection program that may be blocking JWL from accessing the internet?

What kind of device?  Which operating system are you using?  What version of the OS (like Android 7 or Windows 10 home)?  What version of JWL are you running? This information helps others understand where you are and what problems might be known in your circumstances.

Generally deleting a publication and downloading it again will refresh the hidden catalog file that you are asking about, but if you can't download any publications, then something else is wrong. The information that John asked for will help. Besides that, are you able to create a backup of the Personal Study information?

Your publications/jwpubs would be in your download folder.

Music is in the music folder (folder is named JW Library)

Video is in the video folder (folder is named also named JW Library).

In windows under settings and then Apps and installed apps you have a few options (try repair and or terminate):

Hello,

Please check Windows Services (type "Services" in Start)

Check WpnService (Windows Push Notifications System Service) if it is Running and have Automatic startup type.

Once I rtied to disable unused services on cheap brother`s laptop and spent hours to find out why JW Library stopped update. 🙃

Make sure that your download folders are set correctly in the app settings. Sometimes these can get messed up, I've seen issues where even uninstalling and reinstalling doesn't fix it and I had to create a new user account.

Please clarify, are new publications not showing up on the home page or are they showing up but don't download?

Hello
Thank you for many suggestions

  • I have a firewall but it is managed centrally and on other computers the same policy does not block anything. Additionally, I turned it off from the console for a moment but it did not help
  • The problem concerns Windows 11 23H2
    JWL version 14.3.45 (429479)
  • I can create a backup file and restore it without a problem
  • The repair option from Windows level did not change anything
  • The WPN service works automatically
  • The latest publications appear in the what's new section but I cannot download them. In the case of vieo, the program asks about the quality and then spins for a while and that's it Nothings is happening

This video shows what is happening

Following because I am having the exact same issue.  :(  I've installed and re-installed twice.  A couple of items will download but the majority will not, the little circle just keeps spinning.  And nothing will update.  I appreciate you good brothers who can help.. ❤️

FYI - I'm on a spiffy new ASUS Vivobook, just purchased in May.  Running Windows 11 and every other app/ download, etc., works very well.  I just can't get JW Library to work properly.

I have experienced this problem in the past a few times.

It resolved for me by 1. updating the JW Library app; 2. updating the operating system; 3. leaving the device run for a while. It was a case of either or all options until the system started working again.

Once, I had to back up my Personal Study notes to email and send to myself. Then completely delete JWLibrary (Revo Uninstaller to delete all leftovers), then fresh install the app. I had to check the settings and download some publications, but once I installed the backup file, everything was back to normal.

That is odd. I have had that happen with one or two publications in the past, but I think the problem was their end, I was able to eventually download them.

One time I had a similar problem and as Myew suggested, the file path for Music/Video was incorrect, but that didn't affect the publications.

I wish I could help but I'm not an IT guy.

I'm curious, did the problem start after a Windows update?

Have you tried to check if the 'Offline  Mode' toggle is set to off in you library app? Also if your JWL app is accessing the internet, it should show the 'JW Library Download/Upload Host' in your task manager whenever you start a download in the app.

This is the third time this has happened to me, and each time I have had to uninstall and then re-install the program. After that it will work fine for several months but then for no apparent reason it will stop downloading again. I have checked all the JW Library settings, and they are correct. I've tried repairing it in Apps, but nothing changes. I have a 2 terabyte tower with 32 gigs of ram a 11th Gen Intel(R) Core(TM) i7-11700K @ 3.60GHz   3.60 GHz. running windows 11, version 23H2.

It really makes no sense why it happens out of the blue!

I'm clutching at straws right now.

For myself, my computer was brand new (OS and all) and JW Library has never worked properly 😭

My only issue with MacOS right now, is I will have notes in one chapter in a publication, and when I go to the next, the notes 'appear' to come with me. if I restart JWL, the notes are only on the first chapter.

It's important too to be aware that this only happens when I have just created the notes let's say in the first chapter and then I move onto the second chapter and it's like they're there. If I try to add a note, it doesn't appear on the page, but it does appear after a restart. If all of this sounds confusing trust me it's confusing having it happen to me.

It has happened to my Samsung Tab S (8.4) on Lollipop and V12 JWL app.

Also it has affected some other brothers Samsung Tab S2 tablets (Nougat and V15 JWL).

I say it could be due to the server changes that the Branch are doing as @gusdn1 had mentioned elsewhere here.

The work around is going to the jw.org website and manually downloading the .jwpub file and them open that file with JWL app on your device.

However we did come across some errors when downloading sime files where our browser wouldn't proceed to download but giving a warning that the server did not have the required security certificate, and the browser thinks the server that it is connecting to is suspicious. However, you can click on the "Advance" option and then still give permission to download the file.

Hello! I was struggling with this issue after performing a clean install of Windows 11 24H2 two days ago. Tried everything: repair, reset, uninstall - reinstall, create a new user, but nothing worked. Last night, I was finally able to make it work so I decided to create an account to hopefully help out others having the same issue. Granted, everyone's system is configured differently so there's no guarantee it'll work but what I did was move the JW Library app to another drive.

I went to Start>Settings>Apps>Installed apps, then clicked on JW Library's three-dot menu, then Move (this is probably available if you have another drive available). After that, everything worked and I could download the publications again.

My guess is it may have some permission that prevents JW Library from writing data on the previous drive. I hope this can help you too. image.png.c673a9d24eba1db36dcb1da5e8a340ab.png

Have you tried getting in touch with your instructors? I'm sure they'll be happy to provide jwpub files for you if you're supposed to have them. As for your notes, the backup/restore feature should help once you reinstall the app.

This site explains a way to transfer all the downloaded content to a different computer or account. Or you could save the folders, uninstall, reinstall, and copy them back:

https://github.com/AntonyCorbett/JWLMerge/issues/44

Basically the procedure is to copy three folders from %LocalAppData%\Packages\WatchtowerBibleandTractSo.45909CDBADF3C_5rz59y55nfz3e\LocalState\

I had a look at those folders and they mostly contain the images in the publications as well as some dabatases which I understand contain the text of the publications. There are no JWPUB files, so I guess when you install one JW Library unpacks its contents to these folders.

I haven't tried this procedure myself. If you try it, please tell us if it worked.

Hi!

I have a new laptop Windows 11 pro ver. 23H2

I´m not good at computers but I´m very persistent. At last I solved this problem temporarily on my lap-top. Don´t know if it´s working for everyone, but it did for me. Just don´t download the video and sound files to the Bible. 🙄

After installing the app and downloading one publication I closed the app, started again and could download something else. But once I downloaded the Bible and searched files in the cloud nothing worked anymore. Uninstalled the app, started from the beginning without searching for files in the Bible, and everything else works just fine. This is not a perfect solution and I don´t know what happens tomorrow, next week, month - but it works for now.

Luckily I have a back-up copy, none of my studyprojects were gone.
