Is it just me? - Halloween

Recommended Posts

Is it just me, or does it seem like there are MORE houses decorated than before?  And the ones decorated have MORE decorations than before?  Even at my place of business, I don't think they've ever turned the operations building into a haunted house before, and yet it is happening this year....

Maybe it's my imagination & wishful thinking....but it seems like the devil is throwing the biggest party he can for his favorite holiday.......before he's taken out of the picture for 1000 years.  🤔  Let's hope it's his last celebration!!!

I can't wait for all this mess to be gone...

It seems that Halloween is more popular than Christmas in the US. Is it that way in other countries?

In Brazil, people have started talking about this in the past 10 years, but no one really goes out in the streets or throws parties. Sometimes, a few clubs might throw Halloween-themed electronic parties, but that’s about it. At the school where I work, once in a while, a kid will ask if they can come dressed up on the day. What’s really big here, though, is a tradition on November 2nd called "Dia de Finados" (All Souls' Day). On that day, it's common for families to go to cemeteries to put flowers on relatives’ graves and light candles.

Here in the U P of Michigan, the weather will be beautiful on Satan’s holiday. (As far as I’m concerned 🤣🤣 💃💃💃

100% chance of rain in the forecast, + high temp of 50’s falling into the 40’s in the afternoon.

It’s interesting how, over the last few years, Brazilian culture has been adapting some American traditions to create similar “special days” here. For example, they took a day dedicated to a Catholic saint, who people believe performs miracles related to relationships, and used it to create a Brazilian version of Valentine’s Day. Then they took the day after Thanksgiving to launch a Brazilian Black Friday, and so on.

I have found something interesting in my research…

Originally the holiday was based off of ancient Pre-Roman Celtic traditions to honor the dead.

It more modern times, it seems to be heavily influenced by a modern Celtic festival called Samhain, a festival that celebrates the end of harvest season, and the beginning of winter.

You can read more about it here:

Leviticus 19:18: “‘You must not take vengeance nor hold a grudge against the sons of your people, and you must love your fellow man as yourself.”

It is getting bigger each year here in Australia. It had been started by supermarkets just to sell their candies anf chocolates to kids, also an extra reason for other stores to have a themed "sales day". But it has been ramping up the last couple of years as well.

We also have Xmas in July, Black Fridays (where it is Friday 13th on the whichever month) which now falls more in line with the USA version of Black Friday, or any other seasonal holiday sale as well. There is even a "Not an Every Day Sale".

Yesterday I was driving through the suburbs and saw 3m tall 3 skeletons…. Accompanied by huge spider and spiderwebs … it was truly terrifying sight. (And people took time to assemble those skeletons… some are really into it)

Man was created as an intelligent creature with the desire to explore and understand :)

I don't think too much about Halloween or Christmas!  One nice thing is that where I have lived over the past 25 years or so (at least 3 different places) all I have to do is leave the lights off and no trick-or-treaters come to the door.  That is fine with me.

As Western culture has come to Korea, we’ve started to see more and more Halloween decorations. However, two years ago, during a Halloween festival, over 150 people were crushed to death in a narrow alley. Since then, the atmosphere for celebrating or enjoying Halloween has died down somewhat.
