2024 Governing Body Update #8

Recommended Posts

When Brother Cook spoke of the brothers who needed to play Jehovah’s enemies, I immediately thought of the brother who played Herod and the people saying to him, “Too bad, spit, you couldn’t kill baby Jesus, could you?”

Just kidding, I thought about that brother giving the interview and saying how embarrassing it was to play the “bad news Al.”

We have quite a few friends that have come out in videos.   We had a bus load of friends that came in from the Carolina's and wounded up in our parking lot thinking we were headquarters.  (our name has finally changed) thank goodness.

We all moved up to the front of the hall to make room for them.  It was a watchtower meeting and talk.  They caught sight of some of our friends that appeared in several videos and wanted pictures.  One of our brothers had to exit out the back door.  It was quite a sight because they were all bringing their cameras out to take pictures.

I can see how instantly we forget that we can worship creatures, immediately forgetting who the worship belongs to.  The Jews of the day fell into that trap time and time again.

Can’t we imagine how embarrassing it must be for those friends who are in our videos to receive this sort of treatment? So far I only listened to a short part of the #8 (ministry morning) and really liked, appreciated the sound, timely counsel Br. Cook gave.

"  I thought about that brother giving the interview"... Same thought, exactly.

As one who has high anxiety and doesn't like being in the spotlight, receiving that treatment would make my life a nightmare, I totally understand how one might feel like withdrawing from large gatherings. I understand much less how one could develop such an admiration for normal human beings.

It makes me wonder about the entire concept of acting and being in the public life. Will we be better equipped to handle this in the NS? It reminds me of something I heard about Prince. They say in his hometown of Minneapolis he could go to the clubs/bars and not be mobbed by people because they were locals and they showed respect by not acting like fans. It makes me think it's at least possible to be "famous" and not be idolized.

I recently was on an assignment and got the chance to be around helpers to the GB and those who had appeared in certain dramas, music videos and the like. I kept saying to myself: “That’s the brother that appears in…that’s the sister from…” It was amazing to see so many together in one setting! I got chance to talk to one brother who did my favourite Morning Worship on the website. I repeat what Brother Cook said, they are humble men and women.

I had a photo with some as I just thanked them for the hard work and time they devoted for the specific role that they had or the teachings they presented. They looked comfortable and relaxed after I said it and they weren’t embarrassed or self-conscious. Balance is needed so that you’re not worshipping the ground they walk on. We worship the true God, right?

Memories that will stay forever. :)

This is one of those things that will need to be repeated over and over and over. I could be wrong, but before the monthly broadcasts I don't think anyone was necessarily 'starstruck' by Governing Body members, many of us likely didn't even know who they were. But since the broadcasts have been a thing there has been repeated counsel not to treat them as celebrities. I would assume that this was part of the reason that authors' names disappeared from Watchtower publications after Rutherford (or 'round thereabouts).

Just stop it.Romans 12:2
