Lake Hillier is a pink-coloured lake on Middle Island, the largest of the islands and islets that make up the Recherche Archipelago, in Western Australia. The lake spans only about 600 meters wide but its rose pink colour is unmistakable

The only living organism in Lake Hillier is Dunaliella salina, the microorganism that causes the salt content in the lake to create a red dye, hence the colour. Another hypothesis is that the pink colour is due to red halophilic bacteria in the salt crusts. Despite the unusual hue, the lake exhibits no known adverse effects upon humans. From above, the lake appears a solid bubble gum pink, but from the shoreline it appears more of a clear pink hue. The shoreline is also covered in salt crust deposits.

Harvested first batch of dill today, had a hard time getting it through the door. Had to go in another door and take it in from the inside so not to damage the plants. Could I have taken it in by smaller bunches? yep, but i already had hold of it and they were a slippery bunch so just did the whole thing at once. Having a wonderful garden again this year, but am excited to know how it is in the NS. Can we just imagine?????

Are you sure this is not the result of an industrial Pepto-Bismol spill?

A couple yrs back I travelled to WA & came across a similar pink salt lake. The water was this color pink due to the run of from the Eucalyptus trees & different minerals. & the sand being red. But pretty cool huh.

This pit is found in South Australia.  Place calle Ochre.. Aboriginal place. they use the colors for their painting & body decoration THis place is located of the BIrdsvile track.

Hi friends, hope you can assist me in this regard. I've been trying to load pics to some of the forums, to no avail. I just get error messages that the pics are too big to upload. Is there something that I'm doing wrong? Will I need to change the file format, as most of these pics are JPEGS. I cannot even load my profile pic which is farther frustrating....plz help.

I find taking the mouse down to the bottom corner of a picture I wish to copy, right click and hold, then drag the mouse arrow across the picture.   This should turn the picture/photo blue.   At this stage DON'T right click to copy (you will see what happens if you try to do this).   Release the mouse, press control C then paste onto wherever.   Easy and works every time for me.
