I can share some fresh made caps if you like. I'll ask Lew to pop some over the holiday, he loves doing it, says it quiet therapy. Ya that and a fresh adult beverage!

I used to think Igauzu Falls were my favorite, but then I realized that

my fave falls is whichever one I happen to be

looking at at the moment.^_^

Love these pic's Ross. I long for the day when I can stand in a waterfall and bask in the warm sun.

I was raised in Jewell, Oregon. http://www.vannattabros.com/geo10.html

We had a creek behind our house that had 3 swimming holes, and a rapids down from the house. Those were the days. Quite the historic old town.

In the link you'll see the store and hotel.

Jewell-Store-hotel46a.jpg.f592692c20b556012e8d954c231fd3ab.jpg

The store was still there when I was a child, rebuilt some years before by Mrs. Meyers and her husband and 2 sons. When I was young Mrs. Meyers had died and the two sons, Loggers, just closed it up with all the stuff still inside. Shame. Stayed that way for decades, think it's still there under all the over-growth. One of the son's is still alive, in his 90's I believe.

Then the pool hall became the Jewell Tavern. Boy that place had quite the reputation! Every year it slid just a little further toward the creek behind it and there was a bet as to how long it'd take till it fell in! I guess it finally was torn down before it fell in.

The Jewell garage was just across the street and was still standing when I rode my bike past it in 1974-77.

Jewell-Garagea.jpg.cfc2c70c71012d249c55eea8c92e8e17.jpg

There was a road next to the garage, just a few feet down that road, on the left, was the road to the pioneer cemetery, my place of refuge as a child of not-so-good parents. Had a beautiful huge oak tree where all the babies and children were buried.

Ahh, nostalgia.

Thanks Cheryl for sharing your pictures and memories of your hometown...I looked up the Jewell, Or and saw

more photos...it really takes you back to a different time and place....couldn't be any more dissimilar than the

circumstances we find ourselves in today!

Really, it's still a slow paced logging community. The school is basically the hub of the community. Except for my dad, he worked as a serviceman for Sears. He fixed TV's and all the household appliances. So he drove to Astoria, Oregon, a 28 mile very curvy, journey every morning, for work.

I remember the swimming holes with great fondness. I like #3, it had a slate landing that had a 4 foot drop-off. I also remember building a raft and paddling up to the neighbors house by the Elk Refuge and floating down to the rapids before the Jewell Tavern. Ohh, then we got huge inner tubes, let the fun begin! We floated down on the Nehalem River to meet up with another chum. An all day trip. Oh so tired after that.

I want to do that again.

When I went to New Zealand I took this picture and this bird is called a Kiwi on the yellow caution sign.

But oddly enough it is a nick name given to New Zealanders, which I will never understand because I love the New Zealand People they are really a great group!!!!!!

The direction is facing East so it's at late evening and coming upon sunset. The path is called Riverwalk and the big red building in the water is an old cannery, wouldn't surprise me if it was built in the early 1900's.

Wonder why the new picture was merged with the other picture..? Is there a way to separate them ?

Thank you for telling me  so I know the next time, and thanks for separating them. I don't want to take credit/likes for Sister Cheryl's  picture because it got stuck to my name...:)

From the direction of the shadows, it would seem that you are facing maybe northeast.  Just guessing.  It actually depends on the time of the year.

Nup, This pic is taken facing straight East. Behind the camera is the Megler (Oregon/Washington) bridge. The color looks ethereal because we have some unique sunsets.

This pic is taken just outside the Mill Pond Village, the village was a long time coming after the demise of the old plywood mill in the 80's, it's shutdown really affected the community. After the mills' buildings were removed the site remained polluted for a long time until it was rebuilt for senior housing and some regular upscale housing, using the pond as a centerpiece.

In my pic, behind the red cannery, you can see the East Mooring Basin, where a newly restored 39th St Cannery building is that contains business and a coffee shop among other things.  Oh and a landing full of sea lions, tons of them. Noisy nasty things.

I hope you enjoy the visual tour I attached.

Molly-moo goes right to the grass clipping piles when we go outside, She'll roll around, burrow her head and throw them in the air. Totally filthy. Bath time then cuddles on the couch.

The picture was fine before I clicked on Submit. I don't know what happened but I do have problems posting pictures...I usually drag and drop it from my desktop but it looked fine. Must have got scrambled in cyberspace. I'll try again..
