Oh you should see me dance with that thing....oh yes I have! I can even run it one handed while I whoop it up with the other! I've even been known to drive it with my hip! You didn't know I have such hidden talents 🤣🤣

Back in the 70's and 80's I used to work in a pizza place. The owner would strip and rewax the floors every 6 months. You're right, the floor tile under the booth seats almost new while the main area looked an entirely different color.

One time, he asked me to help (yes, I got paid) and I discovered he was doing the job "by hand". He used the stripper with a mop and scrub brush on a handle. I told him the next time he should rent a floor machine - that it would be much easier and work much better.

A few months later he told me he had bought a machine for doing the floors and it should also help keep the floors buffed in between. He showed me the machine and it was a nice-looking machine. A couple weeks later, when I came in to work, the machine was sitting in the entry way and he was not really happy. He said he thought something was wrong with the machine - that it didn't work like I told him it should. He asked me to check it out.

I adjusted the handles to my grip and pulled the handle, the machine whirred to life and operated quite smoothly. I buffed the entry way in just a few minutes. He stared at me running the machine and said he could not get it to work like that. I told him to show me.

He dropped it down to his height and pulled the handle. The machine bucked, bashed the side of the counter and, in general, threw him all over the place. I looked at him trying to hold back a grin. When we topped, I simply said, you do know, you are supposed to lock the handle when you use it. Yep, he was trying to use it with the handle unlocked and free-floating. Once he locked the handle, he found it worked like I told him - although, he never could run it one handed like I did.

If you really want to have an experience, you should try an old carpet shampoo machine. Not only is carpet much rougher to run a machine like that on, they also spin in the opposite direction.

Absolutely John!!!!! I remember not locking it in the early days and it was impossible to operate. The brother I was learning from corrected me and it was great from there.  I became an asset to him by doing the check stands in a 27,000 sq. ft. grocery store as he and his crew did the other isles. After that I learned, much to my detriment, to use the burnisher. It's not for women. We DO NOT have the upper body strength to use it. But me, as a farm girl who slung 70 pound hay bales, wouldn't listen. Now I suffer the body damage from those decisions.

But I still love floor work, 1,300 sq ft or less, I can handle that.

I have a machine that I made a "floor sanding disk" by gluing 36 grit floor sanding paper (often called cobblestone paper) on the back of some carpet. I would toss that on the floor carpet-side-up and use the scrub brush to spin it. Cleaned the old glue of many-a-floor with that thing - even a few KH's.

I never did get an actual floor sanding attachment.

Oh dear, did you grind the carpet to nothing? I have a black pad I use for concrete and its the most aggressive pad I use. Ahhh, it sounds like you were cleaning things up for re-gluing carpet down.

Yes, I was sanding concrete floors for new glue-down carpet.

Many years ago, I was sanding new construction bathroom and kitchen floors for tile installation. I had a 7" angle grinder with a vacuum hose attachment.  Unfortunately, there wasn't much information about hearing safety back then and that's why I have poor hearing today..

I used a propane burnisher when I did grocery stores, it's screaming loud, I did wear ear plugs. The only thing that made it bearable.
