Tablets?

I am "considering" getting a tablet, but am not that "techy".   I've read in some threads here and done other research.  I see the Samsung Galaxy 10.1 and the Nexus 7 have high ratings.  Was wondering about Dell tablets.  

 

Anyone have any suggestions?  I definitely want Android over Apple.  I have a Samsung Galaxy 4 phones and that's what I'm used to.

Yes, if you have an android phone you should go android tablet. (note: I feel the same for those with iPhones - go Apple).

 

I have a Galaxy Note 10.1 and like it. For the money - I say stick with the Galaxy Tab - pick a size.

 

What I did was tried a size I didn't think I would like - the smallest and used it for 2 weeks. Then did a factory restore and brought it back to Costco (got my money back). Then I tried the next size up - I do like a 10.1 better than the smaller sizes.

 

Try a few out - most stores have a 2 week to 30 day no questions asked return policy.

I totally love my nexus 7, I am on my second one...it does everything my Samsung phone does and they are sync'd so when I take a pic on my phone, it goes on my tablet automatically

AS a suggestion, I'm using an ASUS tablet running Windows 8. It took a little time to learn how to use it, but I'm completely satisfied. A plus is that it will run Watchtower Library for PC.

I have never used a tablet, never tried one but I want something I can use at meetings. I have windows 8 on my laptop but don't really use it. I heard that android was easier to use, which I am only repeating what I read but not totally understanding the concept. I found this on walmart.com since it is in store and I can check it out personally. It received good ratings for the price. Would like some input if anyone has an opinion. Thanks

Just my opinion, but you may find a seven inch screen a little small for what you want to do (study, research, annotate, etc)

I am looking at this one and from what I read the bigger screen would be better for me. I want to get a keyboard with it since that is what I am used to. 

From what I read, I would have to learn a lot about apps and take off what I don't need. I figure I could download some of the apps that have been suggested here. As far as taking any apps off, I believe my oldest son might find time to do that for me. (we'll see, haha)

From all I have seen it is a good product. Also if you gon onto Groupon they have a refurbished at a real good price.

Everyone else probably knows this but I didn't, you can play with the samsung device on verizon at the link above, they have a tutorial on what to do. It's pretty neat.

I like the Jellybean operating system better than the Ice Cream Sandwich myself but it is a little more money.

 

Groupon has a pretty good deal going for $369.99. 32GB internal memory and up to 64 GB ext memory chip.

We own 3 of these from Groupon with no problems so far.

We just bought our daughter the Samsung Galaxy Note 10.1 2014 edition last week.  It is pretty awesome.  The stylus is really cool.  I'm amazed at all it can do.  My daughter has the Samsung Galaxy phone, so this tablet is just like her phone which made it easy for her to learn.

This is the mistake many make when they buy their first tractor .... they "think: they know what they plan to use it for. Then when they get it home, they find that there are so many more things they can do and never thought of that they wish they had gotten a bigger one.

 

Tablets are like tractors .... what you think is "too big" is usually just right or not quite big enough.

 

My daughter has the Samsung Galaxy Note 10.1 - for some time now - and she is so pleased with it that my wife, who is not very computer savvy, now has one.

 

They work great for meeting, especially since you can have 2 apps open at the same time (displayed side-by-side) and the pen is super.

 

If I didn't want to hold out for a Windows tablet, I would save up for the SGN 10.1 - but, since I have a TMAX 10" Android tablet ($99) I will stick with that until I can get what I really want.

Thanks John, that is what I am afraid of, buying something and then wish I had got the other. I do like the pen aspect, especially using for highlighting and then putting notes to the side. My husband is on board with me getting one, especially since he will learn how to use the laptop. My laptop is not that big and would fit in his book bag easily if he needed to take it with him. 

I do a lot of pic taking of my poodle puppies and have to crop them and size them and then send them by email. I am hoping it would be easier to do this with this tablet. Besides being on the web for here and jw.org, facebook, the rest is my studying and I would like to do that on a tablet and take to the hall. And hopefully if my health improves some, I would love to use the tablet out in service especially with the different language groups we have here. 

I don't do games and can send most my pics to the laptop since i have a lot of memory on my laptop. I am hoping I will be able to communicate the tablet with the laptop easily as far as transferring pics. 

I finally got a printer that I can send what I want through bluetooth and I love it because I don't have to plug in wires and such.

Mine may be a "no-name" but it has a mini-usb port and I can connect my tera-byte usb drive to the tablet and transfer files in both directions. It also has a mini-usb to usb cord so I can plug my flash drives into it also

I recently purchased a Samsung Note 10.1 2014 edition..such an amazing tablet..I didn't want to get an Ipad either and I'm so happy that I didn't...I have a Samsung Note 2 phone and I'm far more impressed with Samsung products then I ever was with anything Apple ...we were so happy with this tablet that we got a second one so my hubby could have his own.

John, a friend got a no-name brand and it is so slow, with only 8 G's. How does your's compare? I want to get my brother one, but he is mentally challenged and so he doesn't need anything special. I just don't want him to feel left out.

Count me among the Samsung Galaxy Note 10.1 users. I love it. The 2014 Edition seems to be a step backwards to me but I don't really have a lot of experience with it. They are working on a version with a 12.2 inch screen and I just might have to get that one.

Im none too impressed with Samsung at the moment...my S3 keeps randomly turning itself off, evidently its a known problem since the last update so it will be returned...not that it will fix the problem...so I am back using my Galaxy S

Arghh! Sorry Annie. I too have an S3. Since the Jelly Bean update, my battery life got shorter. It could be just aging battery or the update. I found on Amazon 3 batteries and a charger for $15. They should be here tomorrow. I'll keep you posted.

The update wrecked havoc with my S3! It messed up my lock screen so much that it was taking me five minutes to unlock the phone. I finally had to disable the lock screen completely. Battery life has dropped to half of what it was before the update. And call quality has really dropped too! They took the best phone I've ever had and ruined it. If you Google the new update, you will see thousands of complaints about it, most with the same issues I am having.

Its crazy I went into the shop today put the phone on the counter and demanded it to be fixed lol

The thing is I know that it will return to me wiped but with the same update in it...so I pointed out to them that being on a contract includes having a working phone...so if the problem persists then they can give me a different phone! !

I had heard about the Jelly Bean update problem and everytime it tried to update I denied it....eventually it didnt ask, it just updated

I agree it was the best phone ever...and now ruined, people will leave Samsung in droves if they dont fix the problem...I am certainely considering it.

Let me know how it goes Jerry...mine was turning off randomly even with a full battery then once it turned off it would turn on and off constantly until I took the battery out.
