In view of the current global situation participants of the consultations spoke in favor of strengthening the UN's central role in ensuring peace, stability, and the supremacy of international law.

United Nations increasingly shares responsibility for peace and security with regional organizations, everything possible should be bone to help them resolve regional problems and to include the States concerned in solutions, Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon said today.

When Jehovah's time comes, he'll put the thought into their hearts. Like you, hoping it's down our road soon.

Soon! Right after the preaching work is finished. We want to be sure that everyone that is coming into the truth has been reached.

The refugee crisis in Europe, the migrant crisis in the Americas (it could be claimed the illegal aliens are refugees) and the unbridled march of terrorist groups such as ISIS, Boko Haram and Al-Quida, the time is ripe for the UN to step in and take more of a firm role in the Peace and Security movement.

Phillipians 4:8 Finally, brothers, whatever things are true, whatever things are of serious concern, whatever things are righteous, whatever things are chaste, whatever things are lovable, whatever things are well-spoken-of, whatever things are virtuous, and whatever things are praiseworthy, continue considering these things.

Technology has tied the world together so tightly that even small events can affect everyone. It seems possible that since events almost anywhere in the world can influence the entire world, it may just be a compilation of small events like Shawn listed that prompt the UN to take global action. We don't need a single large event for the world to be affected enough for the UN to step in.

the 'big problems' Shawn mentioned brings to mind 1 of my fav WT articles:

w92 9/15  "How This World Will Come to an End"

"... just before that day of Jehovah begins, world leaders will be saying “Peace and security!”

This may refer to one event or to a series of events.

Nations may think that they are close to solving some of their big problems.

What about the religious leaders? They are part of the world, so it is possible that they will join the political leaders. (Rev. 17:1, 2)

The clergy would thus be imitating the false prophets of ancient Judah.

Jehovah said about them: “They [are] saying, ‘There is peace! There is peace!’ when there is no peace.”—Jer. 6:14; 23:16, 17.

At that time those who fear Jehovah spoke with one another, each one with his companion,

and Jehovah kept paying attention and listening..." ~ Malachi 3:16
