JWBroadcasting download costs

Recommended Posts

Does anyone have an idea how much the organisation is paying the third party for all these lovely videos I am helping myself to?

Any rough estimates per GB/TB?

Akamai, being the leader in the cdn industry, does not disclose its pricing for the service. So, we can never know for SURE what the brothers pay, because they use Akamai.

But, there are some calculators on the internet, that can give us an estimate. Again, we cannot know for sure, because we will never know how much bandwidth is used by all the websites and streaming services that are owned by the organization.

http://www.cdncalc.com/

https://azure.microsoft.com/en-us/pricing/details/cdn/

The second cdn calculator is owned by Microsoft, so that might be a little bit more accurate.

Lets assume that the monthly bandwidth is around 1000 TB of data. ( Which is A LOT, but lets say, for the sake of argument). The Microsoft calculator has different prices for different areas of the world. The Average cost of the different areas is around 0.077$ per GB of data. At that rate, 1000 TB of data will cost around 80.000 $ per month.

The higher you go on the bandwidth consumption, the lower the prices get.

In fact, after writing the post, i realized that 1000 TB is nothing... If only 1.000.000 people download the monthly broadcast on highest resolution, there goes the 1000 TB's.

Thank you Brother Andrej for these calculations.

If 5,000,000 publishers download 1GB per month then that equates to $400,000 US as an estimated cost of streaming.

That's 12.5 cents per GB

But as you said 'the higher the bandwidth consumption, the lower the price.'

It of course excludes the production costs of the videos but it gives me an estimate. :)

And if five million mags, tracts, books were distributed? What is the cost on those?

When compared with the monthly broadcast, nothing
