They read the letter again today at meeting, about the Russian letter writing campaign. Also our circuit overseer wrote an additional letter, stating that because we are on the west coast we should aim to get out letters mailed by Monday, March 27th. I was happy that I had my letters in the mail on Wednesday! Anyone else get a little extra nudge from their CO?

What did you mean by that?

Because the instructions are to NOT translate your letter into Russian unless you are fluent in Russian, so I personally would be careful about going beyond what is written. Even a single scripture could give the go ahead to others to translate more than that into Russian in direct opposition to the instructions. (Everyone carries their own load, and if their conscience is fine with translating a scripture that is between them and Jehovah, but again, I'd be careful about conveying that it's  a great idea to others).

That's fair enough.

The timing is of interest as well...Has anyone seen in the news what is happening in Russia right now? Mass protests all over the huge country, riots, mass arrests ~ including the arrest of Mr. Aleksei Navalny, who is very popular with many of the people of Russia. The police in Russia must be overloaded right now, with all the arrests and civil unrest ~ and likely a load of paperwork in connection with all of this. I just hope that they take note that none of Jehovah's Witnesses are participating in these protests and riots, and therefore none are getting arrested for these things. Additionally, Mr. Denis Voronenkov, a well known critic of Mr. Putin, was suspiciously assassinated in Kiev.

When do you think they will start arriving? Anytime from today onwards yes?

I think they will start as a slow trickle and then it will become a deluge as the days pass and more and more get posted.  They will probably shrug off the first few dozen as the behaviour of fools and then as each day brings more and more they will start to realise the seriousness of their situation.  I would love to be a fly on the wall as those officials get their daily mail over the next few weeks.

Just building pictures in my mind as to what it could be like.

And in addition to this, we are leading up to the Memorial ... timing is everything with Jehovah ... very intriguing isn't it?

There is a sister in our cong that is a post master (mentioned earlier ) and she said it will take two weeks for our letters to get there.

That's ok, every flood starts with a few raindrops...

I have enjoyed  reading some of the letters that are being planned to send to the Russian officials

and the comments of others. I have completed my letter which I plan to use as essentially a form

letter to each of the different officials on the Societies list. I would like to attach my letter and request that some of you brothers and sisters will review it and give your comments both pro and

con with the view I can send the most persuasive yet appropriate letter to send to all these officials. I hope this file can be viewed. Please let me know. Thank you very much.

Sincerely yours,

GStorrs46     Letter to Russia.rtf

Hi brother Michael,

I have read your letter which opened in Word on my computer and I think it is lovely that you have incorporated a number of scriptures in your letter backing up your statements and your reference to the help that bible study gives to those who are struggling with alcoholism, drug addiction, family dysfunction, etc. etc.  Also this paragraph is very nicely put:

"We are not the extemists we have been branded  by our enemies. All we desire is to live in peace, obey the laws of the land as long as they are according to our God given conscience, and meet and worship our God peacefully according His commands. We Pray President Putin, You will use Your High Political Authority to act on our united request to You for mercy and clemancy in our legal case that now stands before Your Courts."

It is also great that you have used the capital 'Y' in the pronouns 'you' and 'your' as a mark of respect to the Russian president.

However, there are a couple of things I noticed was that don't quite fit with the society's instructions.

1) The letter opened on my computer in Word with the font in Calibri 11 and it was 3 pages long.  I adjusted the font to Ariel 10 and thenTimes New Roman 10 which is very small and it is still over the one page requested by the society:  "Letters should be one page in length and should be typewritten or neatly handwritten".

2) I don't know if you intended the bold script in a number of sentences, but this felt to me to be rather aggressive, as did your references to Hitler and Karl Marx, the dark ages, the inquistion and the Roman Catholic Church. I don't know that this fits in with a couple of the FDS requests such as:  "You could express appreciation for the laws of the Russian government that guarantee freedom of religion to all citizens" and  "Letters should be candid but respectful." " Keep in mind that “a mild answer turns away rage,” and “a gentle tongue can break a bone.”—Prov. 15:1; 25:15."

3) I do think you need to run it through a spell and grammer checker as there are a number of mistakes that need addressing.

Please understand that this is only my opinion but one that you did ask for. I hope you don't find anything I have written upsetting as my only desire is to help.

Don't give up .. it's just around the corner.

Can some one confirm that brothers in Ukraine CANNOT send letters to Russia due to the unofficial war in Eastern Ukraine?

Did you check JW.Org to see if there is a pdf file of instruction for the Ukraine congregations?

I don't have an answer but there is a PDF file in Ukrainian.

Is that pdf file based on language or geographical region? If I'm in a Ukrainian congregation in a European country or Brooklyn, NY (yeah Brooklyn is a country ) those instructions are valuable for me.

Understood it's just that there are some brothers that are in some countries that might not be able to participate in the campaign due to unique circumstances; therefore we that can participate must appreciate what we are doing for those that can't.
